''Snaxxx'' is the third studio album by American hip hop artist Mike Mictlan, a member of Minneapolis indie hip hop collective Doomtree. It was released on Doomtree Records on September 27, 2012 for free download via the label's bandcamp. It was named one of PopMatter's top overlooked albums in 2012. Michael Marquez (born July 8, 1982), better known by his stage name Mike Mictlan (), is a rapper from Los Angeles, California, who is currently based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is a founding member of the indie hip hop collective Doomtree and the hip hop duo The Mercenaries. Mike Mictlan has released four solo albums and is currently signed to Doomtree Records. ''City Pages'' listed him as the 10th best Minnesota rapper in 2012. Early life Marquez was born in Los Angeles, California to a Vietnam veteran father from Venice, Italy and an American mother, who is from Anaheim. Mike is of Mexican descent. John Samels, better known by his stage name Paper Tiger, is a hip hop producer and DJ from Minneapolis, Minnesota, who is currently based in Brooklyn, New York. He is a founding member of the indie hip hop collective Doomtree. History Paper Tiger released the 7-inch vinyl single, ''Cloquet'', in December 2009. His first solo album, ''Made Like Us'', was released in July 2010. It features vocal contributions from Dessa of Doomtree and Maggie Morrison of Digitata. Alternative Hip Hop
Alternative hip hop (also known as alternative rap) is a subgenre of hip hop music that encompasses a wide range of styles that are not typically identified as mainstream. AllMusic defines it as comprising " hip hop groups that refuse to conform to any of the traditional stereotypes of rap, such as gangsta, bass, hardcore, and party rap.
