Snakedance
''Snakedance'' is the second serial of the 20th season of the British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who'', which was first broadcast in four twice-weekly parts on BBC1 from 18 to 26 January 1983. The serial is set on the planet Manussa 500 years after the serial '' Kinda'' (1982). In the serial, the Mara takes over the bodies of the Doctor's companion Tegan (Janet Fielding) and Lon (Martin Clunes), the ruler's son, while seeking to manifest itself by using a crystal. Plot The arrival of the TARDIS on Manussa triggers nightmares in Tegan, who dreams of a snake-shaped cave mouth. When she and The Fifth Doctor find the cave from her dream, Tegan runs away. Alone and confused, Tegan lapses under the control of the Mara once more. Mara (Doctor Who)
The Mara is a fictional monster in the long-running British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. It is a being of pure hatred, anger and greed, and requires the fear of its victims to survive. It exists in the minds of its victims and can transmit itself telepathically, although it can also physically manifest as a giant snake. It is so evil that it cannot bear the sight of its own reflection. In the Dark Places of the Inside, it manifests as phantoms such as Dukkha (played by Jeff Stewart), Anatta (played by Anna Wing), and Annica (played by Roger Milner). The Mara was created on the planet Manussa in the Scrampus system, turning the Manussan empire into the Sumaran empire. Eventually the Mara was defeated and driven out by a Manussan (the ancestor of the future Manussan Federator) and cast into the "dark places beyond". However, it survived. Brian Miller (actor)
Brian Reginald Miller (born 17 April 1941) is a British actor and television personality. He is known for his music and television appearances. Miller was married to Elisabeth Sladen, who was a recurring cast member on the BBC show ''Doctor Who'' and also in her own spin off series ''The Sarah Jane Adventures''. Career Miller and his wife, Elisabeth Sladen, moved to Liverpool after she left ''Doctor Who'' and they performed in a series of plays. This included a two-person production with Sladen in ''Mooney and his Caravans''. In 1978, they appeared alongside each other in the ITV drama ''Send In The Girls''. He played Mr Buttle in Terry Gilliam's 1985 film ''Brazil''. This is a list of ''Doctor Who'' serials and episodes that have been released on DVD and Blu-ray. DVD Release Most ''Doctor Who'' DVDs have been released first in the United Kingdom with Region 2, and released later in Australia and New Zealand ( Region 4) and in North America ( Region 1). Aside from differences in the external packaging, special features and commentaries are mostly identical in all versions. All Region 1 releases prior to September 2005 included a "Who's Who" feature that identified key cast members and gave brief biographies and filmographies. The Region 1 releases of ''The Robots of Death'', ''The Ark in Space'', ''The Talons of Weng-Chiang'', and ''Pyramids of Mars'' also include a featurette with the syndicated Time Life introductions and closings narrated by Howard da Silva. Jonathon Morris (born 20 July 1960) is an English actor and former television presenter. Career Morris is best known for his role as Adrian Boswell in Carla Lane's comedy ''Bread'', in which he starred for the series' entire five-year run between 1986 and 1991, and which made him a well-known face on British television. ''Arc of Infinity'' is the first serial of the 20th season of the British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who'', which was first broadcast in four twice-weekly parts on BBC1 from 3 to 12 January 1983. Christopher Bailey is a British academic and former screenwriter for television, particularly noted for his work on ''Doctor Who''. He lectures in English at the University of Brighton. Writing on Doctor Who The first of Bailey's scripts for ''Doctor Who'', ''Kinda'', broadcast in 1982, was analysed in detail by the first major scholarly work dedicated to ''Doctor Who''. ''Doctor Who: The Unfolding Text'' by Tulloch and Alvarado included analysis of ''Kindas Buddhist and Jungian symbology and related its tropes to Ursula K. Le Guin. The strength of the script for Kinda led to Bailey writing a sequel in 1983, ''Snakedance''. Script editor Eric Saward requested that Bailey devise another story idea. Tegan Jovanka
Tegan Jovanka is a fictional character played by Janet Fielding in the long-running British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. An Australian airline stewardess and a native of Brisbane who was a companion of the Fourth and Fifth Doctors, she was a regular in the programme from 1981 to 1984. Tegan appeared in 20 stories (65 episodes). According to producer John Nathan-Turner, when he was thinking of a name for the character, it was either going to be Tegan, after his partner's niece in Australia, or Jovanka, after Jovanka Broz, the widow of Yugoslavian President Josip Broz Tito, so he wrote both down on a piece of paper. Script editor Christopher H. Bidmead mistakenly believed that Jovanka was the character's last name rather than an alternative, and so christened her ''Tegan Jovanka''. Alexander Martin Clunes OBE DL (born 28 November 1961) is an English actor, comedian, director and television presenter. He is best known for portraying Martin Ellingham in the ITV comedy-drama series ''Doc Martin'' and Gary Strang in ''Men Behaving Badly''. Clunes has narrated a number of documentaries for ITV, the first of which was '' Islands of Britain'' in 2009. He has since presented a number of documentaries centred on animals. John Derek Carson-Parker (28 February 1927 – 5 November 2016), known as John Carson, was an English actor known for his appearances in film and television.
