Kernel Smoother
A kernel smoother is a statistical technique to estimate a real valued function f: \mathbb^p \to \mathbb as the weighted average of neighboring observed data. The weight is defined by the ''kernel'', such that closer points are given higher weights. The estimated function is smooth, and the level of smoothness is set by a single parameter. Kernel smoothing is a type of weighted moving average. Definitions Let K_(X_0 ,X) be a kernel defined by :K_(X_0 ,X) = D\left( \frac \right) where: * X,X_0 \in \mathbb^p * \left\, \cdot \right\, is the Euclidean norm * h_\lambda (X_0) is a parameter (kernel radius) * ''D''(''t'') is typically a positive real valued function, whose value is decreasing (or not increasing) for the increasing distance between the ''X'' and ''X''0. Popular kernels used for smoothing include parabolic (Epanechnikov), Tricube, and Gaussian kernels. Let Y(X):\mathbb^p \to \mathbb be a continuous function of ''X''. For each X_0 \in \mathbb^p, the Nadaraya-Watson k ...

Smoother (band)
Smoother was a Canadian rock band from Hamilton, Ontario, headed by lead vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Andrew Franey. Members included Beau Cook on bass and vocals, keyboardist James Fleming, drummer Adam Benning and Todd Knight on guitar and vocals. History Smoother started out with the name Sponge; They signed with Sonic Unyon and recorded an album, ''Trendbender'', in cassette form in 1993 under that name. The band also contributed to a Sonic Union compilation album, ''Not if I Smell You First''. The band changed its name to Smoother after the American band with the same name began to achieve success in North America. They then released an album, ''Copycat'' in 1994 through Sonic Unyon. Smoother performed at the NXNE festival and Edgefest in 2001. The band's first and only major label release, ''Chasing the Dragon'', was released in 2001 through EMI Canada. The album was well received critically but failed to meet the sales expectations of EMI. The single "East Sid ...

Semi-automatic transmission
A semi-automatic transmission is a multiple-speed transmission where part of its operation is automated (typically the actuation of the clutch), but the driver's input is still required to launch the vehicle from a standstill and to manually change gears. Semi-automatic transmissions were almost exclusively used in motorcycles and are based on conventional manual transmissions or sequential manual transmissions, but use an automatic clutch system. But some semi-automatic transmissions have also been based on standard hydraulic automatic transmissions with torque converters and planetary gearsets. Names for specific types of semi-automatic transmissions include ''clutchless manual'', ''auto-manual'', ''auto-clutch manual'', and ''paddle-shift'' transmissions. These systems facilitate gear shifts for the driver by operating the clutch system automatically, usually via switches that trigger an actuator or servo, while still requiring the driver to manually shift gears. This co ...
