Smithland is a city in Woodbury County, Iowa, United States. It is part of the Sioux City, IA– NE– SD Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 181 at the time of the 2020 census. History Smithland is one of the oldest settlements in Woodbury County. Smithland is a home rule-class city in Livingston County, Kentucky, United States, at the confluence of the Ohio and Cumberland Rivers. The population was 301 at the 2010 census, a drop from 401 in 2000. It is the county seat of Livingston County. Smithland is part of the Paducah, KY- IL Micropolitan Statistical Area. Smithland is a historic house in Natchez, Mississippi, USA. History The land was acquired by Calvin Smith in the late 18th century, who gave it to his son, Benijah Smith, in the early 19th century. Smithland was built as a great house on a plantation from 1815 to 1817. It was designed in the Federal architectural style. The house was purchased by John H. Thorn in 1834. When it was remodelled in 1845, it was redesigned in the Greek Revival architectural style. By the 1980s, the house still belonged to Thorn's descendants. Smithland Farm, also known as the General John McCausland Memorial Farm, is a historic home and farm located near Henderson, Mason County, West Virginia. The main house is a two-story frame structure constructed in 1869. The house is a side-gabled, two-story, weatherboarded frame structure with a two-story frame wing. The property includes a contributing corncrib (c. 1950), silo (c. 1930), pole barn (c. 1930s), barn (early 1900s), main barn (early 1900s), block school (c. 1915–1920), and Poffenbarger Cemetery (late 1900s). It was for many years part of a larger farm owned by Confederate General John McCausland. The West Virginia Department of Agriculture acquired the farm in 1981.
