Vitālijs Smirnovs
Vitālijs Smirnovs (born 28 June 1986) is a Latvian footballer, who currently plays as central defender for FK Spartaks Jūrmala. Club career Skonto Riga As a youth player, Smirnovs played for JFC Skonto and was taken to the first team in 2004, right away becoming a champion of Latvian Higher League. In his debut season he made just one league appearance for Skonto Riga, and during the next three seasons his playing time did not increase much as Smirnovs appeared two times in the league during the 2005 season and 4 times during 2007. His chance with a considerably increasing playing time came in 2008, when Smirnovs made 16 league appearances. By 2009 he had already become a persistent first-eleven player, appearing in 25 league matches and being voted the best centre-back of the season alongside Tomas Tamošauskas, Deniss Ivanovs and David Gamezardashvili. Georgijs Smirnovs
Georgijs Smirnovs (born 1936) is a Latvian former football player and manager. In 2006 Latvian Football Federation selected Smirnovs as one of the 11 greatest footballers in the first 100 years of football in Latvia. Biography Born in Leningrad, Smirnovs played football with a local factory club. In 1957 he was sent to Riga, Latvia for military service. He got to play with FK Dinamo Rīga with which he won the Latvian Cup and was noted by many as a very talented forward. After just six matches that he had played with Dinamo, Vadims Ulbergs from Daugava Rīga offered Smirnovs to join the strongest Latvian club. He made his debut with Daugava in the 1st Soviet league in the 1957 and played with the club until 1971. In his best season in 1960 when Daugava played in the Soviet Top League Smirnovs scored 11 goals and was nominated to the list of the 33 best Soviet footballers of the year. Deniss Smirnovs
Deniss Smirnovs (born 7 March 1999) is a Latvian professional ice hockey centre for EHC Kloten of the National League (NL). He previously played with Genève-Servette HC and won a NL title with the team in 2023. Smirnovs played his junior hockey in Switzerland which allows him to compete in the NL and the SL with a Swiss player-license. Playing career On August 8, 2019, Smirnovs signed his first professional contract with Genève-Servette HC, after having played 5 seasons with the organization's junior teams. Smirnovs made his National League debut with Genève-Servette HC on September 13, 2019 against the SCL Tigers at the Ilfis Stadium.
