''Smile'' is the sixth studio album by American singer Katy Perry. It was released on August 28, 2020, by Capitol Records, three years after its predecessor ''Witness'' (2017). Perry worked with various producers on the album, such as Josh Abraham, Carolina Liar, the Daylights, G Koop, Andrew Goldstein, Oligee, Oscar Görres, Oscar Holter, Ilya, Ian Kirkpatrick, the Monsters & Strangerz, Charlie Puth, Stargate and Zedd. She described ''Smile'' as her "journey towards the light, with stories of resilience, hope, and love". Primarily a pop record, ''Smile'' is characterized by themes of self-help and empowerment. Robert Mandell, professionally known as G Koop, is an American Grammy award, Grammy-nominated record producer, songwriter and musician. Early life G Koop is originally from Boston, Massachusetts. His father had a large collection of albums, and his mother contends that G Koop's first word was "doobie," interpreted as a request for The Doobie Brothers to be played. His first job was at a record store. As a young child, he learned to play a number of instruments, including guitar, bass, piano, and drums. G Koop graduated from Berklee College of Music. The Daylights are a defunct alternative rock band from Los Angeles, California that formed in 2004. The trio was fronted by brothers Ran Jackson and Ricky Jackson, with Svend Lerche on Drums. Best known for their song, "I Hope This Gets To You" that was released in December 2010 as a virtual “love letter” on YouTube, it was based on a concept they conceived with their roommate for his long distance girlfriend.
