Eric L. Smidt (born 1960) is an American businessman. He is chairman and CEO of Harbor Freight Tools, which operates over 1,300 retail hardware stores in 48 states and generated revenue of approximately $6.5 billion according to an August 2021 Los Angeles Business Journal report. Early life Smidt was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1960 to Allan Smidt and Dorthy Smidt. His mother had multiple sclerosis and his father, overwhelmed, sent him to an orphanage when he was nine. Four years later, he went to live with an aunt in Tennessee, returning home after two years, before moving into his own apartment on his 16th birthday. He graduated from Grant High School in Van Nuys, a public school in Los Angeles. Johann Smidt (November 5, 1773 – May 7, 1857) was an important Bremen politician, theologian, and founder of Bremerhaven. Biography Smidt was a son of the Reformed preacher Johann Smidt sen., pastor at St. Stephen Church in Bremen. Smidt jun. studied theology in Jena, and was one of the founders of the Gesellschaft der freien Männer (Community of free men). He was ordained Reformed preacher in Zürich in 1797. He then became Professor of History at the ''Gymnasium illustre'' in his hometown. He then became 'Syndikus' (company lawyer) for the Älterleute (aldermen, Bremen's merchants corporation of constitutional rank) and in 1800 'Ratsherr' (councilman), a position in which he exerted considerable influence on the governmental and commercial development of the cities of the Hanseatic League. Kristian Smidt, OBE (20 November 1916 – 9 August 2013) was a Norwegian literary historian. Biography Smidt was born in Sandefjord as a son of bishop Johannes Smidt. His doctor thesis from 1949 was a treatment of the work of T. S. Eliot. He was appointed professor of English literature at the University of Oslo from 1955 to 1985. Among his publications are works on James Joyce and on the composition of Shakespeare's plays. Smidt also researched on text problems in Shakespeare, with special focus on ''Richard III''. He has authored several books analyzing the works of several famous writers. His works included ''The Diverse Shakespeare'' (2000), ''Ibsen Translated'' (2000, which examines the English translation of '' A Doll's House'') and ''Silent Creditors'' (2004). Karoline Smidt Nielsen (born 12 May 1994) is a Danish former footballer who played as an attacking midfielder for Turbine Potsdam of the German Frauen-Bundesliga as well as for the Denmark women's national football team. Club career Smidt Nielsen joined Fortuna Hjørring from OB Odense in summer 2012. Johannes Smidt
Johannes Smidt (19 November 1887 – 15 May 1973) was a Norwegian theologian and priest in the Church of Norway. He served as the Bishop of the Diocese of Agder from 1951 until 1957. Personal life Smidt was born on 19 November 1887 in Herad municipality in the far southern part of Norway. He was the son of the priest, Edvard Dahl Smidt and his wife Valborg Hannestad. In 1914, Smidt married Jofrid Grimstvedt. He died on 15 May 1973 in Oslo, Norway and he was buried on 21 May 1973 at the Ullern Church where he worked for many years. His daughter is Vibeke Engelstad and his son is Kristian Smidt. Education and career Smidt graduated with a cand.theol. degree in 1912. Karl Smidt
Karl Ernst Smidt (30 August 1903 – 11 January 1984) was German naval commander who reached the rank of Konteradmiral with the West German Navy. He served during World War II and was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross of Nazi Germany. From 1961 to 1963 he was the NATO Commander-in-Chief of the German Fleet of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Rupert De Smidt
Rupert de Smidt (23 November 1883 – 3 August 1986) was a South African cricketer who played first-class cricket for Western Province. He is the fifth oldest of the 23 first-class cricketers known to have surpassed 100 years of age. Born in Cape Town, de Smidt played four matches for Western Province during the 1912/13 season. A leg break bowler he took 16 wickets at an average of 18.00, finishing his only first-class season as Western Province's leading wicket-taker. His best bowling figures of 4/40 came on his debut against Transvaal after he had taken 4/65 in the first innings. De Smidt was a lower order batsman, batting at number eight in four of his five innings. He scored 74 runs at an average of 18.50, with a highest score of 42 not out against Orange Free State. De Smidt died aged 102 years 253 days in Cape Town. His '' Wisden'' obituary stated he "was believed to be the oldest first-class cricketer". The record passed to Jim Hutchinson in August 1999.
