''Small Towns and Big Dreams'' is the first live album by Canadian country music singer Paul Brandt. The album was released on Brandt's own record label, Brand-T Records. The album features all new material recorded during a cross-country tour of small Canadian towns. The first single, "Canadian Man", was recorded in the studio. It peaked at number one on the Canadian Singles Chart. ''Small Towns and Big Dreams'' won the 2002 Canadian Country Music Association Award for Album of the Year. Paul Brandt
Paul Rennée Belobersycky (born July 21, 1972), known professionally as Paul Brandt, is a Canadian country music artist. Growing up in Calgary, he was a pediatric RN at the time of his big break. In 1996, he made his mark on the country music charts with the single "My Heart Has a History", propelling him to international success and making him the first male Canadian country singer to reach the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in the United States since Hank Snow in 1974. Early life Brandt was born in Calgary, Alberta and grew up in Airdrie, Alberta. The first time Brandt sang in front of an audience was when he sang "Amazing Grace" at his high school. The Canadian Singles Chart was a chart compiled by the American-based music sales tracking company, Nielsen SoundScan, which began publication in November 1996. It was published every Wednesday and also published on Thursday by '' Jam!''/Canoe. It was superseded by the '' Billboard''-published Canadian Hot 100 in 2007. History In the 1960s, the Canadian music industry was disparate and regionally focused, and English-speaking Canadian artists were often overlooked in favour of American acts. To encourage a more national focus and ensure that domestic artists were promoted across Canada, the Maple Leaf System (MLS) was set up in 1969. The Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) was founded in 1976 as the Academy of Country Music Entertainment to organize, promote and develop a Canadian country music industry. The groundwork for the association began on June 3rd, 1973 when a group of twelve entertainers, promoters and radio personalities met at The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, Ontario and formed a Board of Directors to help promote Canadian content. Jon Vezner
Jon Vezner (born June 6, 1951) is an American country music songwriter. He is best known for his work with Kathy Mattea, to whom he has been married since 1988. Vezner began working as a songwriter in Minnesota and later moved to Nashville, Tennessee. He set up a publishing company underneath the apartment in which Mattea lived, and befriended her after jump-starting her car. They began dating in 1986, and married on February 14, 1988. Vezner wrote several of Mattea's songs, including "Where've You Been", "A Few Good Things Remain", "Time Passes By", and " Whole Lotta Holes". He also wrote " Then What?" for Clay Walker, " If I Didn't Love You" by Steve Wariner, and " You're Gone" by Diamond Rio.
