Smack The Pony
''Smack the Pony'' is a British sketch comedy show that was originally broadcast between 1999 and 2003 on Channel 4. The main performers on the show were Fiona Allen, Doon Mackichan and Sally Phillips. There were also regular appearances from Sarah Alexander, Darren Boyd and Cavan Clerkin. The show's theme tune was a version of the Dusty Springfield song "In the Middle of Nowhere", sung by Jackie Clune. In addition to the three principal cast members, the show was written by many writers, the core of which went on to write ''Green Wing'' and ''Campus''. Among the show's regular themes were unsuccessful relationships, competition in the workplace and latent lesbianism, but sketches would also dip into the surreal. It was created by the team behind the sketch show ''Smack the Pony'' and hospital-based sitcom ''Green Wing'', led by Victoria Pile who acts as co-writer, producer and director. ''Red Nose Day 2017'' was a fund-raising event organised by Comic Relief, broadcast live on BBC One and BBC Two from the evening of 24 March 2017 to early the following morning. This 2017 edition of Red Nose Day was part of the "Make Your Laugh Matter" campaign. It was held on Friday 24 March till Saturday 25 March 2017 from 7:00 pm to 2:30 am on BBC One. Location and format Following the closure of BBC Television Centre in 2013, Comic Relief has had to look for new venues to host the annual telethons as they were previously filmed live from Studio One. Sport Relief 2014 was the first not to be filmed at Television Centre, but at the Copper Box in London's Olympic Park. As a result, Red Nose Day 2015 came live, for the first time in its history, from the heart of London in its most prestigious theatre, the London Palladium. "I Don't Want a Lover" is the debut single of Scottish band Texas, taken from their first album, ''Southside'' (1989). The music starts with blues slide guitar followed by a throbbing rhythm section before the vocals break in. It was released on 23 January 1989 and peaked at number eight on the UK Singles Chart. In 2001, Norwegian production team Stargate remixed and re-released the song to promote '' The Greatest Hits'' compilation album. Released on 9 July 2001, this version peaked at number 16 on the UK chart. Critical reception In an ironic review of 4 February 1989 the Phil Cheeseman, reviewer of British music newspaper ''Record Mirror'', chided the song for lack of individuality. Kevin Lygo (born 18 September 1957) is a British television Executive (management), executive, presently Director of Television at ITV Network, ITV. Early life Lygo is the son of Royal Navy officer Raymond Lygo. Educated at Cranbrook School, Kent, Lygo studied Psychology at Durham University, graduating in 1980.
