Slovenian Press Agency ( sl, Slovenska tiskovna agencija) (STA), established in 1991, is a national press agency covering domestic and international events. It was established and is owned by the Republic of Slovenia. STA news services (the General News Service in Slovene, the daily English Service, the Picture Service, and a specialized Radio Service) are targeted towards state institutions, corporations, embassies and other users. The STA is the only provider of daily news in English for the expatriate community in Slovenia and English-speaking readers abroad. With over 100 full-time employees and part-time contributors based in Ljubljana, as well as a network of correspondents in major cities across Slovenia and Brussels, New York, Zagreb, Rome, Klagenfurt, Trieste and Gorizia. A news agency is an organization that gathers news reports and sells them to subscribing news organizations, such as newspapers, magazines and radio and television broadcasters. A news agency may also be referred to as a wire service, newswire, or news service. Although there are many news agencies around the world, three global news agencies, Agence France-Presse (AFP), the Associated Press (AP), and Reuters have offices in most countries of the world, cover all areas of information, and provide the majority of international news printed by the world's newspapers. All three began with and continue to operate on a basic philosophy of providing a single objective news feed to all subscribers.
