Slovenia In The Eurovision Song Contest 2009
Slovenia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song "Love Symphony" written by Andrej Babić and Aleksandar Valenčić. The song was performed by Quartissimo feat. Martina. Slovenian broadcaster Radiotelevizija Slovenija (RTV Slovenija) organised the national final ''EMA 2009'' in order to select the Slovenian entry for the 2009 contest in Moscow, Russia. The national final consisted of a semi-final and a final where "Love Symphony" performed by Quartissimo feat. Martina was eventually selected as the winner following the combination of votes from a three-member jury panel and a public vote. Slovenia was drawn to compete in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 14 May 2009. Quartissimo
Quartissimo is a Slovenian string quartet featuring Žiga Cerar on first violin, Matjaž Bogataj on second violin, Luka Dukarić on viola, and Samo Dervišić on cello. The group's name is a portmanteau of quartet and the Italian suffix -issimo, which means extremely (e.g., ''fortissimo'', ''prestissimo''). The young but established musicians have experience as soloists and members of chamber orchestras, including the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra. All have had formal training in violin. Russia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade, Serbia. The Russian entry was selected through a national final, Evrovidenie 2008 (Евровидение 2008) organised by the Russian broadcaster Rossiya Channel (RTR). Alenka Gotar is a Slovene soprano singer, born in Rodica, Domžale, Rodica in 1977. With the song "Cvet z juga" ("Flower of the South"), she represented Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in Helsinki, Finland. Lea Sirk (born 1 September 1989) is a Slovenian singer, who represented her country in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2018. Biography She started her musical education at the age of five in Koper, Slovenia. Between 2001 and 2007, Lea participated at numerous national and international competitions, where she regularly finished amongst the top positions. Lea finished her secondary school while studying the concert flute. Karmen Stavec (born 21 December 1973) is a Slovene musician and pop singer. Early years Karmen was born in West Berlin, at that time part of West Germany, to Slovene parents. After graduation she came to Domžale, Slovenia, where she joined the dance duo "4 Fun". She also began to study Germanic studies at the Philosophical Faculty at the University of Ljubljana. Omar Naber
Omar Kareem Naber (born 7 July 1981) is a Slovenian singer, songwriter and guitar player. He first represented Slovenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in Kyiv with the song "Stop" and for a second time at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv with the song " On My Way", but failed to qualify to the final on both occasions. Early life Naber was born on 7 July 1981 in Ljubljana, SR Slovenia, then still part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. His father, Samir Naber originates from Jordan, and is a dentist by profession working in Ljubljana. His mother, Alenka Naber, is a Slovenian and works as a piano teacher.
