Slovenia At The 2010 Winter Olympics
Slovenia participated at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Alpine skier Tina Maze won two silver medals, and cross-country skier Petra Majdič won bronze in the women's sprint event, despite having crashed into a pit during warm-up, suffering four broken ribs and a punctured lung. Among other notable results were Robert Kranjec's 6th place in normal hill and 9th place in large hill ski jumping event, Tina Maze's 9th place in slalom, and Aleš Gorza's 10th place in giant slalom. Slovenian Olympic Committee ( sl, Olimpijski komite Slovenije, OKS) ensures the participation of Slovenian athletes at the Olympic Games, the Mediterranean Games, and the European Youth Olympic Festival. Matic Skube
Matic Skube (born February 23, 1988 in Kranj, SFR Yugoslavia) is a retired alpine skier from Slovenia. He competed for Slovenia at the 2010 Winter Olympics where he failed to finish the first run of the slalom. At the World Junior Alpine Skiing Championships 2007, he won the gold medal in slalom. He won World Cup points seven times, last time on 15 March 2015 in Kranjska Gora with 27th place in slalom. The Men's Downhill competition of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics was held at Whistler Creekside in Whistler, British Columbia. The competition was scheduled for Saturday, February 13, but was postponed due to rain and warm temperatures; it was held on Monday, February 15. The defending Olympic champion was Antoine Dénériaz of France and the reigning world champion was John Kucera of Canada; neither competed as Dénériaz had retired and Kucera was out for the season with a broken leg. Austrian Michael Walchhofer was the defending World Cup downhill champion and Didier Cuche of Switzerland led the current season, ahead of teammate Carlo Janka and Walchhofer. The men's super combined competition of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics was held at Whistler Creekside in Whistler, British Columbia. The competition was scheduled for February 16, but was postponed due to weather delays in preceding races; it was held five days later on February 21. American athlete Bode Miller won his only Olympic gold medal, Ivica Kostelić of Croatia won silver, and Silvan Zurbriggen of Switzerland took the bronze. One major change in this event for the 2010 Olympics was the switch from a traditional dedicated "combined" (K), taking place over one or two days and involving a downhill run and two slalom runs (as the combined had been since its reintroduction to the Olympics in 1988), to a one-day "super combined" (SC), consisting of a downhill run in the morning and one slalom run in the afternoon. Andrej Jerman
Andrej "Jerry" Jerman, (born 30 September 1978), is a recently retired World Cup alpine ski racer from Slovenia. Born in Tržič, then in SFR Yugoslavia, Jerman specialized in the speed events of downhill and super G. He gained his first World Cup victory at Garmisch-Partenkirchen in February 2007 in a downhill, the first-ever for Slovenia. The next day he finished second, again in the downhill. Until then, his best World Cup result was fourth place in a downhill at Bormio, two months earlier. Jerman later gathered his second victory at Bormio, and finished his career with four World Cup podiums, all in downhill, and 27 top tens, with 18 in downhill. His best result in Super G was fourth, which came at Lake Louise in November 2007. Jerman represented Slovenia at three Winter Olympics and five World Championships.
