Slovakia–Ukraine Border
The Slovakia–Ukraine border is an internationally established boundary between Slovakia and Ukraine. Both countries inherited it from their previous respective state organizations, Ukraine from the Soviet Union and Slovakia from Czechoslovakia. The current border was established after World War II and stretches for . After the 2004 enlargement of the European Union, admission of Slovakia to the European Union, the border became the external border of the European Union. Ukraine's Uzhhorod Airport is located just a few hundred metres from the border. Slovakia–Ukraine Relations
Slovakia–Ukraine relations are foreign relations between Slovakia and Ukraine. Both countries established diplomatic relations on January 1, 1993. Slovakia has an embassy in Kyiv, a general consulate in Uzhhorod, and 2 honorary consulates (in Donetsk and Uzhhorod). Ukraine has an embassy in Bratislava and a general consulate in Prešov. The countries share 97 km of common border. There are between 40,000 and 100,000 people of Ukrainian descent living in Slovakia. During the Interwar era the Ukrainian Oblast Zakarpattia was part of Czechoslovakia, before being ceded to Hungary. Veľké Slemence
Veľké Slemence (; hu, Nagyszelmenc) is a village and municipality in Michalovce District in the Košice Region of southeastern Slovakia. History In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1332. It was a single village named Szelmenc (between 1919 and 1938 it was called Slemence) before 1945. From 1919 until 1945, Szelmenc bore the same history as Subcarpathian Rus'. It was first ceded to Czechoslovakia in 1919, then after the First Vienna Award in 1938 it returned to the Kingdom of Hungary, then back, then, after the Soviet-Czechoslovak Treaty in 1945 was partially ceded to the Soviet Union along with Subcarpathian Rus'. Chop Railway Station
Chop ( uk, Чоп, hu, Csap) is a railway station that is located in a small city of Chop, Zakarpattia Oblast in Ukraine. It is part of the Uzhhorod administration (Lviv Railways). General description The station is an important transportation hub and gateway to Ukraine. There are two border checkpoints: Strazh for Slovakia and Druzhba for Hungary. Maťovské Vojkovce (; hu, Mátyócvajkóc) is a village and municipality in Michalovce District in the Košice Region of eastern Slovakia.
