Slobodan Prosperov Novak
Slobodan Prosperov Novak (born 11 April 1951), is a Croatian literature historian, comparativist and theatrologist. Biography Prosperov Novak was born in Belgrade, but spent his childhood in Dubrovnik. He graduated comparative literature in 1973 at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, receiving his M.A. in 1976 and Ph.D. in 1978. He worked as a journalist in a periodical ''Vjesnik u srijedu'' (1973–1974). In 1977 he is an assistant, and in 1988 a professor of Old Croatian literature at the Faculty of Philosophy. In the period of 1981-1984 he teaches at the Institute for Slavic Philology of the University of Rome, and from 1990–1992 he serves as an assistant of the minister of education, culture and sport of the Republic of Croatia. In 1990–1992 he was the president of the council of Dubrovnik Summer Festival, and in 2000 served as its head. The Academy of Dramatic Art ( hr, Akademija dramske umjetnosti or ADU) is a Croatian drama school. Since its inception in 1896, the institution grew in prominence resulting in its successful affiliation with the University of Zagreb in 1979, along with the Academy of Music and the Academy of Fine Arts. Hvar
Hvar (; Chakavian: ''Hvor'' or ''For'', el, Φάρος, Pharos, la, Pharia, it, Lesina) is a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea, located off the Dalmatian coast, lying between the islands of Brač, Vis and Korčula. Approximately long, with a high east–west ridge of Mesozoic limestone and dolomite, the island of Hvar is unusual in the area for having a large fertile coastal plain, and fresh water springs. Dživo Franov Gundulić ( it, Gianfrancesco Gondola; 8 January 1589 – 8 December 1638), better known today as Ivan Gundulić, was the most prominent Baroque poet from the Republic of Ragusa (now in Croatia). He is regarded as the Croatian national poet. His work embodies central characteristics of Roman Catholic Counter-Reformation: religious fervor, insistence on "vanity of this world" and zeal in opposition to "infidels".
