Insult
An insult is an expression or statement (or sometimes behavior) which is disrespectful or scornful. Insults may be intentional or accidental. An insult may be factual, but at the same time pejorative, such as the word "inbred". Jocular exchange Lacan considered insults a primary form of social interaction, central to the imaginary order – "a situation that is symbolized in the 'Yah-boo, so are you' of the transitivist quarrel, the original form of aggressive communication". Erving Goffman points out that every "crack or remark set up the possibility of a counter-riposte, topper, or squelch, that is, a comeback". He cites the example of possible interchanges at a dance in a school gym: Backhanded compliments A backhanded (or left-handed) compliment, or asteism, is an insult that is disguised as, or accompanied by, a compliment, especially in situations where the belittling or condescension is intentional. Examples of backhanded compliments include, but are not lim ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Slighting is the deliberate damage of high-status buildings to reduce their value as military, administrative or social structures. This destruction of property sometimes extended to the contents of buildings and the surrounding landscape. It is a phenomenon with complex motivations and was often used as a tool of control. Slighting spanned cultures and periods, with especially well-known examples from the English Civil War in the 17th century. Meaning and use Slighting is the act of deliberately damaging a high-status building, especially a castle or fortification, which could include its contents and the surrounding area. The first recorded use of the word 'slighting' to mean a form of destruction was in 1613. Castles are complex structures combining military, social, and administrative uses, and the decision to slight them took these various roles into account. The purpose of slighting was to reduce the value of the building, whether military, social, or administrative. Des ... Circle (Boom Bip And Doseone Album)
''Circle'' is a collaborative studio album by Boom Bip & Doseone. It was originally released via Mush Records on August 1, 2000. In Europe, it was re-released via The Leaf Label on May 27, 2002. Critical reception Kingsley Marshall of AllMusic gave the album 4.5 stars out of 5, saying, "Boom's otherworldly production and sense of the epic match the rapid-fire delivery of Dose blow for blow -- though occasionally the lyrics come so quickly that lines have to be spun simultaneously through different speakers." Thomas Quinlan of ''Exclaim!'' called it "one of the greatest contemporary hip-hop albums". ''The New York Times'' included it on the year-end "Worthwhile Albums Most People Missed" list. In 2010, Ali Maloney of '' The Skinny'' described the album as "a critical textbook for anyone with delusions of performance poetry." In 2011, Black Gillespie of '' Impose'' said, "''Circle'' remains one of the most daring and challenging records from the early Aughts, predating Anticon's 'a ...
