''Slice to Sharp'' is a ballet made for New York City Ballet's Diamond Project by Jorma Elo to music by Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber and Antonio Vivaldi. The premiere took place on 16 June 2006 at the New York State Theater, Lincoln Center with lighting by Mark Stanley and costumes by Holly Hynes. New York City Ballet (NYCB) is a ballet company founded in 1948 by choreographer George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein. Balanchine and Jerome Robbins are considered the founding choreographers of the company. Léon Barzin was the company's first music director. Edwaard Liang
Edwaard Liang (born c. 1975/1976 Also available a. in Taipei, Taiwan) is a Taiwanese-born American dancer and choreographer. He grew up in Marin County, California. Career Liang began studying dance at the age of 5. He entered the School of American Ballet in New York City in 1989, joined New York City Ballet in 1993 and was promoted to the rank of soloist in 1998.In 2001, Liang left the New York City Ballet to dance in '' Fosse'' on Broadway. He returned to New York City Ballet from 2004 to 2007 where he danced in ballets by Jorma Elo ('' Slice to Sharp'') and Mauro Bigonzetti (''In Vento''). Liang began choreographing around 2003. He created FLIGHT OF ANGELS for Nederlands Dans Theatre and in 2005 his pas de deux DISTANT CRIES was premiered at the Joyce Theatre, NYC, by Peter Boal and Wendy Whelan and was later performed by the same dancers at the New York State Theater. Alastair Macaulay is an English writer and dance critic. He was the chief dance critic for ''The New York Times'' from 2007 until he retired in 2018. He was previously chief dance critic at ''The Times'' and Literary Supplement and chief theater critic of the ''Financial Times'', both of London. He founded the British quarterly ''Dance Theater Journal'' in 1983. He writes that his first morning in New York City was before September 1981. Amar Ramasar
Amar Ramasar (born 1981) is an American ballet dancer and former principal dancer of the New York City Ballet (NYCB). Ramasar joined the NYCB as an apprentice in 2000 and joined the corps de ballet in 2001. As of 2010, Ramasar remained the only person of color who was a principal in NYCB. In 2018, Ramasar was fired from NYCB for sharing explicit pictures of female dancers without their knowledge or consent. In 2019, he made his debut at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome. That same year, a union arbitrator ruled that, while suspension from NYCB was fitting, his firing was too severe a punishment. As a result, the arbitrator ordered Ramasar to be reinstated by the NYCB. In July 2021, the NYCB announced that Ramasar was retiring in May 2022. Joaquín De Luz (born 1976, Madrid, Spain) is a Spanish ballet dancer. He was formerly with the American Ballet Theatre (ABT), and a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet (NYCB). Craig Hall (dancer)
Craig Hall (born 1979) is an American ballet dancer. He danced with the New York City Ballet as a soloist until 2016 then became a repertory director, and was one of the company interim leaders between late 2017 and early 2019. Early life Hall was born in Maywood, Illinois, and started dance training at age 4. At age 14, he entered the Chicago Academy for the Arts. When he was 18, in 1997, he moved to New York City to train at the School of American Ballet full-time, having previously attended two summer intensives there.
