Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Experimental Pop
Experimental pop is pop music that cannot be categorized within traditional musical boundaries or which attempts to push elements of existing popular forms into new areas. It may incorporate experimental techniques such as musique concrète, aleatoric music, or eclecticism into pop contexts. Often, the compositional process involves the use of electronic production effects to manipulate sounds and arrangements, and the composer may draw the listener's attention specifically with both timbre and tonality, though not always simultaneously. Experimental pop music developed concurrently with experimental jazz as a new kind of avant-garde, with many younger musicians embracing the practice of making studio recordings along the fringes of popular music. In the early 1960s, it was common for producers, songwriters, and engineers to freely experiment with musical form, orchestration, unnatural reverb, and other sound effects, and by the late 1960s, highly experimental pop music, or sou ... Following the death of Machat in 2015, '' The Fader'' praised the label for "laying the groundwork to an alternative template for the avant-garde." The label is no longer active. History In 2009, Machat and Woolsey—who met while working at an online company in Los Angeles—were asked to host a radio show on KXLU called Hippos in Tanks. It was named after the novel by Jack Kerouac and William S. Burroughs ''And the Hippos Were Boiled in Their Tanks ''. After leaving the company to work on their label full-time, HIT released their first EP from Von Haze in June 2010. In 2011 Woolsey left the label with Machat staying on as CEO. According to Dean Blunt in 2014, Hippos in Tanks sued him for $10,000 over contract disputes. The dispute was resolved when his label at the time, Rough Trade Records, paid ... Background Sleep ∞ Over formed in 2009 as a trio of musicians Stefanie Franciotti, Sarah Brown and Christa Palazzolo. They produced and released various singles on the labels Light Lodge and Forest Family before Brown and Palazzolo left the project to form the group Boy Friend. Thus, Franciotti was left on her own to create Sleep ∞ Over's debut studio album. Composition Critic Guy Frowny suggests ''Forever'' is an "unfolding" of a "dark baby land," "a realm somewhere between heavens “turning by themselves,” populated by flying saucers, and the lifeworld-bound closed doors and tears that can reference either romance or depravity;" the unfolding is done by the vocals of Franciotti, symbolized as a spiritual guide. ''Forever'' is an ambient electropop record that is "downcast, introspective, and melodic," wrote Patrick McDermott of '' The Boston Phoenix''. In comparing ''Forever'' to the ...
