Sledgehammer Mission Support Site
Sledgehammer Mission Support Site (also known as Sledgehammer MSS, Cu Grok, Hill 1438 or Heavy Drop) was a MACV-SOG base located west of Pleiku, in Kontum Province. History The base was located on a steep and narrow ridgeline overlooking the Plei Trap Valley Legal awareness, sometimes called public legal education or legal literacy, is the Empowerment#Legal, empowerment of individuals regarding issues involving the law.
, approximately 46 km west of Pleiku and 20 km east of the Cambodian border. The base was first established in March 1967 as an operations base and radio relay site to allow SOG teams to remain in contact while on operations in Cambodia. The base was closed in March 1969.


Current use

The base has reverted to jungle.

Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group (MACV-SOG) was a highly classified, multi-service United States special operations unit which conducted covert unconventional warfare operations prior to and during the Vietnam War. Pleiku
Pleiku is a city in central Vietnam, located in the Central Highlands region. It is the capital of the Gia Lai Province. Many years ago, it was inhabited primarily by the Bahnar and Jarai ethnic groups, sometimes known as the Montagnards or Degar, although now it is inhabited primarily by the Kinh ethnic group. Hill 950 (also known as Hickory Hill Mission Support Site, Hickory Hill MSS, Hickory Hill Radio Relay Site or Lemon Tree) was a U.S. Marine Corps and MACV-SOG base located north of Khe Sanh, in Quảng Trị Province. History The base was located approximately 3.5 km north of Khe Sanh. The base was first established by the Marines in late 1966. In May 1967 the site was defended by a company from the 1st Battalion, 26th Marines. On the morning of 6 June a People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) force attacked the base, but were forced back for the loss of 6 Marines and 10 PAVN killed. Leghorn Mission Support Site (also known as Leghorn MSS, Eagle's Nest, Gibralter or Golf-5) was a MACV-SOG base located northwest of Đắk Tô Base Camp, in Attapeu Province, Laos. History The base was located on a steep and narrow ridgeline, approximately 10 km west of the Vietnam-Laos border and 43 km northwest of Đắk Tô Base Camp. The base was first established on 15 January 1967 as an operations base and radio relay site to allow SOG teams to remain in contact while conducting operations in southern Laos. The hillside on which it was constructed was so steep as to render the base practically impervious to ground attack or small arms or mortar fire.
