Slechtvalk (the Dutch word for peregrine falcon) is a Christian black metal band from the Netherlands, formed in 1999. Previously signed to Fear Dark Records and currently to Whirlwind Records, the group has released five albums, a split-CD with Kekal, a single and a DVD. Their second album, ''The War That Plagues the Lands'', reached No. 2 at Lowland's Top 50 Metal Charts. Their third album, ''At the Dawn of War'', coincided with the release of a live-DVD, ''Upon the Fields of Battle'', a maxi single for "Thunder of War", and was named one of ''HM Magazine'' "100 best Christian metal albums of all time". The band's fifth album, ''Where Wandering Shadows and Mists Collide'', was released on December 20, 2016. Chaos & Warfare
''Chaos & Warfare'' is a split album between the bands Kekal, from Indonesia, and Slechtvalk, from the Netherlands, released in 2002 through Fear Dark Records. Critical reception of the album was fairly positive, though Kekal’s side of the release drew some criticism from reviewers. In particular, the band's use of clean vocals was viewed negatively by ''HM Magazine'' writer Matt Morrow, who suggested that the band should have stuck to a solely black metal vocal style. Morrow also leveled heavy criticism at the song "A Stranger So Close". However, some parts of Kekal's material received praise. The song "Mean Attraction" from the band’s previous release, ''The Painful Experience'' was called a "hit," and Morrow said that as that song was the best on The Painful Experience, he did not mind it on this release. Viking Metal
Viking metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music characterized by a lyrical and thematic focus on Norse mythology, Norse paganism, and the Viking Age. Viking metal is quite diverse as a musical style, to the point where some consider it more a cross-genre term than a genre, but it is typically seen as black metal with influences from Nordic folk music. Common traits include a slow-paced and heavy riffing style, anthemic choruses, use of both sung and harsh vocals, a reliance on folk instrumentation, and often the use of keyboards for atmospheric effect. A Forlorn Throne
''A Forlorn Throne'' is the fourth full-length album by Slechtvalk released in May 2010. Recording The band went to Sweden's Studio Mega in late 2009 with producer Johan "the ant" Örnborg to record ''A Forlorn Throne''. It was mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street, and the cover artwork as well as a new logo was designed by Raymond Swanland of Oddworld fame. The album was released on May 31, 2010 in the Netherlands, and July 15 elsewhere. Three of the songs feature guest vocals by Erik Grawsiö of Månegarm. Folk Metal
Folk metal is a fusion genre of heavy metal music and traditional folk music that developed in Europe during the 1990s. It is characterised by the widespread use of folk instruments and, to a lesser extent, traditional singing styles (for example, Dutch Heidevolk, Danish Sylvatica and Spanish Stone of Erech). Kekal (sometimes stylized as KEKAL) is a heavy metal and electronic music band formed in 1995 in Jakarta, Indonesia. According to AllMusic, Kekal was one of the first heavy metal bands from Indonesia to make international inroads, and according to sociologist of heavy metal, Keith Kahn-Harris, was one of the few extreme metal bands from Southeast Asia to ever make more than a minimal impression on the global scene. Frosthardr is a Norwegian Christian black metal band, formed in 1997. The band plays a raw type of black metal music with occasional punk influences and lyrics from Christian point of view. Symphonic Metal
Symphonic metal is a cross-generic style designation for the symphonic subsets of heavy metal music subgenres. It is used to denote any metal band that makes use of symphonic or orchestral elements.
