Sleaford, South Australia
Sleaford is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located at the southern tip of the Eyre Peninsula overlooking the Great Australian Bight about west of the state capital of Adelaide and about west of the municipal seat of Port Lincoln. The boundaries of the locality were created on October 2003 for the “long established name” which is derived from Sleaford Bay. The boundary with the locality of Tulka was altered in both 2006 and 2011. Sleaford consists of land at the southern tip of Eyre Peninsula located south of a line running west from the western end of Proper Bay within the natural harbour known as Port Lincoln, and which is bounded from the west to the south-east by the coastline overlooking the Great Australian Bight including the western half of Sleaford Bay and whose eastern boundary is located in the western part of the Jussieu Peninsula. Liguanea Island
Liguanea Island is an uninhabited granite island in the Australian state of South Australia located 3.7 km south of Cape Carnot at the southern, central point of Eyre Peninsula. It is approximately 2.7 km long, 180 ha in size its elevation above sea level is estimated to be 43 metres. It is approximately 35 km south-west of Port Lincoln in the Great Australian Bight. The island forms part of the Lincoln National Park. History Liguanea Island was named by British explorer Matthew Flinders on 18 February 1802. The following day, Flinders named the nearby headland Cape Wiles "after a worthy friend at Liguanea, in Jamaica." Jussieu Peninsula
__NOTOC__ Jussieu Peninsula is a peninsula located at the south east end of Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. It is bounded by Proper Bay and Spalding Cove within the natural harbour known as Port Lincoln to the north, Spencer Gulf to the east and the Great Australian Bight to the south. While it was first explored and mapped by Matthew Flinders during February 1802, Flinders did not name it. In 1913, the name proposed by François Péron and Louis de Freycinet from Baudin's expedition when it visited later in 1802 was declared as the peninsula's official name by the Government of South Australia. Jussieu refers to the French botanist, Antoine Laurent de Jussieu. Whalers Way Orbital Launch Complex
Whalers Way Orbital Launch Complex is a proposed rocket-launching facility operated by Southern Launch at Whalers Way, in the locality of Sleaford near Port Lincoln on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula. History of the project Southern Launch established its headquarters in Adelaide in 2018, before the city was announced as home for the Australian Space Agency. Its offices are located in Pirie Street, Adelaide. The launchpad at Whalers Way was publicly announced in December 2018, with Southern Launch leading the project. 2016 Australian Census
The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Norfolk Island joined the census for the first time in 2016, adding 1,748 to the population. The ABS annual report revealed that $24 million in additional expenses accrued due to the outage on the census website. Fishery Bay Whaling Station
Fishery Bay whaling station was a whaling station located in the Colony of South Australia on the coast of Fishery Bay, a subsidiary of the larger Sleaford Bay, on Eyre Peninsula about south-west of Port Lincoln. It operated in the 1830s and 1840s and helped to provide the colony with one of its first export commodities. History A shore-based whaling station was operating at Fishery Bay by late 1837. In November the schooner ''Siren'' left Port Adelaide for Sleaford Bay “to take on a cargo of oil from the station there.” By 1839 the station was under the control of the United Fishing Company of Adelaide, which was a partnership between the South Australian Company and Messsrs Hack and Company. Sleaford Mere Conservation Park, formerly the Sleaford Mere National Park, is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia located in the locality of Sleaford on the Jussieu Peninsula at the south eastern tip of Eyre Peninsula about south west of Port Lincoln. The conservation park consists of Sleaford Mere, a permanent saline lake, and a quantity of adjoining land in section 36 of the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Sleaford. Protected areas or conservation areas are locations which receive protection because of their recognized natural, ecological or cultural values. There are several kinds of protected areas, which vary by level of protection depending on the enabling laws of each country or the regulations of the international organizations involved. Agriculture or farming is the practice of cultivating plants and livestock. Agriculture was the key development in the rise of sedentary human civilization, whereby farming of domesticated species created food surpluses that enabled people to live in cities.
