Slaton Independent School District
Slaton Independent School District is a public school district based in Slaton, Texas, United States. In addition to Slaton, the district serves students in rural southeastern Lubbock County and parts of Ransom Canyon. A small portion of extreme northeastern Lynn County lies within the district. In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. Slaton is a city in Lubbock County, Texas, United States founded by German immigrants. Slaton was the westernmost German settlement in Texas. The population was 6,121 at the 2010 census. Ransom Canyon is a town in Lubbock County of West Texas, United States. The population was 1,096 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lubbock Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography The town of Ransom Canyon is located within Yellow House Canyon, at the eastern edge of the Llano Estacado. Yellow House Canyon was carved by the North Fork Double Mountain Fork Brazos River. This stream has been dammed multiple times to form Buffalo Springs Lake and Lake Ransom Canyon. William John "Billy Jack" Cox (born February 15, 1941) is an American public interest lawyer and author. Biography Early career Employed in 1962 by the El Cajon Police Department, he attended the nearby San Diego Police Department Academy. In 1968, Cox transferred to the Los Angeles Police Department where he graduated from the Police Academy. He received an associate degree in Police Administration from Rio Hondo College. In 1974 he was appointed a Deputy Los Angeles County District Attorney. Believing that control of the United States government had been seized by special interest groups and no longer cared for the voters who elected it, Cox filed a ''pro bono'' class action lawsuit on July 9, 1979, on behalf of every American citizen directly in the Supreme Court of the United States, which was denied without comment.
