Slagelse Railway Station
Slagelse railway station ( da, Slagelse Station or ''Slagelse Banegård'') is the main railway station serving the town of Slagelse in southwestern Zealand, Denmark. It is located in the centre of the town, on the northern edge of the historic town centre, and immediately adjacent to the Slagelse bus station. Slagelse station is located on the main line Copenhagen–Fredericia railway from Copenhagen to Funen and Jutland. It is also the southern terminus of the Tølløse branch line from Slagelse to on the Northwest Line. The station opened in 1856, and was moved to its current location in 1892. Its second and current station building designed by the architect Niels Peder Christian Holsøe was inaugurated in 1892. A junction, in the context of rail transport, is a place at which two or more rail routes converge or diverge. This implies a physical connection between the tracks of the two routes (assuming they are of the same gauge), provided by ''points'' (US: switches) and signalling. The Northwest Line (Danish language, Danish: Nordvestbanen), also referred to as the Kalundborg Line (Danish: Kalundborgbanen), is a long, state-owned Single-track railway, single track passenger railway line between Roskilde and Kalundborg in the western part of the island of Zealand. Slagelse () is a town on Zealand, Denmark. The town is the seat of Slagelse Municipality, and is the biggest town of the municipality. It is located 15 km east of Korsør, 16 km north-east of Skælskør, 33 km south-east of Kalundborg and 14 km west of Sorø. History Slagelse has been inhabited since at least the Viking Age, where it was a Pagan site. Trelleborg, a ring castle, was built near the current location of Slagelse in 980, which made the location strategically important. A church was built at Slagelse's current location in the 1000s. Around this time, coins were minted in Slagelse. Antvorskov was built in the 1100s by Valdemar I, who had recently acquired Zealand.
