Slack Bay
''Slack Bay'' (french: Ma Loute) is a 2016 French comedy film directed by Bruno Dumont. It was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. Set on the north-west coast of France in the summer of 1910, with black humour and moments of absurdity the film depicts a confrontation between two families in the midst of a police hunt for missing persons. Plot The van Peteghems, rich and inbred industrialists, are visiting their summer mansion above the bay. On the other side of the creek are the Bruforts, fisherfolk with an unusual diet who also ferry people across the bay. The police are investigating because several visitors to the bay have never returned. The eldest son of the Bruforts, called Ma Loute, falls in love with Billie, the eldest van Peteghem girl. Bruno Dumont (; born 14 March 1958) is a French film director and screenwriter. To date, he has directed ten feature films, all of which border somewhere between realistic drama and the avant-garde. The 69th Cannes Film Festival was held from 11 to 22 May 2016. Australian director George Miller was the President of the Jury for the main competition. French actor Laurent Lafitte was the host for the opening and closing ceremonies. On 15 March it was announced that Japanese director Naomi Kawase would serve as the Cinéfondation and Short Film Jury president. American director Woody Allen's film ''Café Society'' opened the festival. A comedy film is a category of film which emphasizes humor. These films are designed to make the audience laugh through amusement. Films in this style traditionally have a happy ending (black comedy being an exception). Comedy is one of the oldest genres in film and it is derived from the classical comedy in theatre. The Palme d'Or (; en, Golden Palm) is the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival. It was introduced in 1955 by the festival's organizing committee.
