Skødstrup Station
Skødstrup station is a railway station serving the railway town and suburb of Skødstrup north of Aarhus on the peninsula of Djursland in Jutland, Denmark. The station is located on the Grenaa railway line between Aarhus and Grenaa. It opened in 1878, shortly after the opening of the Aarhus-Ryomgård section of the railway line. Since 2019, the station has been served by the Aarhus light rail system, a tram-train network combining tram lines in the city of Aarhus with operation on railway lines in the surrounding countryside. History The station opened on 1 May 1878, one year after the railway company Østjyske Jernbane (ØJJ) opened a branch line from Aarhus to Ryomgård on the Randers-Ryomgaard-Grenaa Line from Randers to Grenaa. Aarhus Light Rail
The Aarhus Letbane (Aarhus light rail) is a light rail system in the city of Aarhus, Denmark. It is operated by the company Midttrafik. The first line opened in December 2017, but the system is under continuous development and expansion. Service on the intercity section Odder to Lisbjergskolen opened on August 25, 2018. A third intercity line to Grenå opened on 30 April 2019. More lines are being planned. On 8 May 2012, the Danish Parliament approved the construction of the first line; work to build Phase 1 commenced during September 2013. It was originally planned to open in August 2016, but this was delayed, in part due to legislative issues in relation to railway safety. Thomas Arboe
Thomas Arboe (22 September 1836 – 8 February 1917) was a Danish architect. Biography Arboe was born at Rønne on the island of Bornholm, Denmark. He was the son of Otto Henrik Arboe and Oliva Elisabeth Saxtorph. He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts building school and ornament school from 1855 to 1862 where he was a student of Gustav Friedrich Hetsch (1788–1864) and also trained under Niels Sigfred Nebelong (1806–1871). He was an Officer in the Royal Danish Army from 1863 where he rose to the rank of captain and was discharged in 1868. From 1868 he was an architect at the railway company '' De jysk-fyenske Jernbaner'' (''the Funen and Jutland Railways''), and from 1880 in Aarhus at the state railway system DSB. Tram-train
A tram-train is a type of light rail vehicle that meets the standards of a light rail system (usually an urban street running tramway), but which also meets national mainline standards permitting operation alongside mainline trains. This allows services that can utilise both existing urban light rail systems and mainline railway networks and stations. It combines the urban accessibility of a tram or light rail with a mainline train's greater speed in the suburbs. The modern tram-train concept was pioneered by the German city of Karlsruhe in the late 1980s, resulting in the creation of the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn.
