Skåre, Norway
Skåre is a List of former municipalities of Norway, former municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1881 until 1958 when it was merged into the neighboring Haugesund (town), town of Haugesund. Originally, Skåre encompassed the far northwestern corner of Rogaland county on the mainland, plus several islands off the western coast. Today, Skåre refers to the northern part of the town of Haugesund. History The municipality of ''Skaare'' (later, the spelling was changed to ''Skåre'') was created on 1 November 1881 when it was split off from the municipality of Torvastad. The new municipality had a population of 1,665. On 1 January 1911, a part of Skåre (population: 3,847) bordering the neighboring town of Haugesund (town), Haugesund was transferred to Haugesund. Skåre Church
Skåre Church ( no, Skåre kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Haugesund Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the town of Haugesund. It is one of the two churches for the Skåre parish which is part of the Haugaland prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The white, wooden church was built in a octagonal style in 1858 using designs by the architect Christian Heinrich Grosch. The church seats about 450 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1301, but the church was not new that year. Historically, the old church was known as ''Haugo Church''. The first church here was a stave church that was actually located across the street from its present location. On 15 May 1301, Bishop Arne of the Ancient Diocese of Stavanger wrote that he was on a visit to Karmøy and Skåre. According to the historian, Snorri Sturluson, King Harald Hårfagre was buried on Haugo (the old name for this area). ...

Bjørn Skaare
Bjørn Skaare (29 October 1958 – 21 June 1989) was a Norwegian ice hockey player. He was the first Norwegian to play in the NHL, playing a single game with the Detroit Red Wings during the 1978–79 NHL season. Playing career Skaare's talent was evident at an early age. He made his debut for Furuset before he had turned 16. In 1976, he was signed by Färjestad of the Swedish Elitserien, although he returned to Furuset within a year. In the fall of 1977, Skaare moved to Canada, where he was signed by the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League, where he became a teammate of future NHL star Bobby Smith. Skaare scored 12 goals and had 30 assists for Ottawa, and was drafted in the 4th round (62nd pick overall) of the 1978 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings.
