Skywriter
''Skywriter'' is the seventh studio album by The Jackson 5, released by Motown on March 29, 1973. Background Lead singer Michael's vocals were now showing the signs of his maturing tenor voice, while Jermaine's voice had become deeper in tone. Notably, one of ''Skywriter's'' songs, "Touch" (originally recorded by the Supremes in 1971), features Michael and Jermaine singing about satisfying a woman in bed. Due to the fact that Michael was only 14 years old at the time, "Touch" was one of the most controversial singles Michael had sung on until his solo career took off again in the late 1970s. The group was also growing frustrated with the direction they were going in and complained to Motown's staff producers and writers about the kind of music they were doing. ''Soulsation!'' is a 4- CD box set of music recorded by The Jackson 5 during their tenure at Motown Records from 1969 to 1975, when they left Motown for CBS Records. The box set was released in 1995 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Jackson 5 becoming the first group to have its first four singles go straight to #1 on the US ''Billboard'' charts. ''Soulsation!'' included an introduction from the group's youngest sister Janet, liner notes from David Ritz and an essay from the brothers' first producer, Bobby Taylor. The fourth disc features 17 previously unreleased songs, most recorded from mid-1969 to early 1972. The set also includes solo numbers from brothers Michael, Jermaine, and Jackie. Songs from all of The Jackson 5's studio albums from 1969 to 1975 are included here, as well as half of the 1976 album of unreleased material ''Joyful Jukebox Music'' (though nothing from the similar ''Boogie'' album of 1979 and no live recordings). Touch (The Supremes Song)
"Touch" is a soft ballad written by Pamela Sawyer and Frank Wilson, who also produced it as a single for Motown recording group The Supremes, who issued it as a single in 1971. It was the title track of the group's fourteenth studio album of the same name. It was the first single in which sole original Supremes member Mary Wilson had a lead vocal on a released Supremes single. Cindy Birdsong also sings lead toward the end of the song. The single, upon release, peaked at number 71 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 becoming the first post-Diana Ross Supremes song to miss the Top 40. It was also the last single in which Frank Wilson would serve as producer. This single would later be covered two years later by The Jackson 5 as the b-side to their single "Hallelujah Day", with almost no changes to the lyrics, lead singer Michael Jackson was only fourteen at the time he recorded the song for the ''Skywriter'' album. Fonce Mizell
The Mizell Brothers were an American record producing team in the 1970s, consisting of Larry Mizell (born February 17, 1944) and Alphonso "Fonce" Mizell (January 15, 1943 – July 5, 2011). They worked together on a string of jazz or R&B albums. History Larry earned a degree in engineering and Fonce Mizell earned a degree in music from Howard University. While there they formed and performed in a jazz vocal quartet, the Vanlords. In the early 1970s, Larry and Fonce Mizell moved to California to start their own company, Sky High Productions. They went on to produce albums for Blue Note Records that set the tone for jazz fusion and the era. The Mizell Brothers often used the same musicians on their albums, including Harvey Mason on drums, Mayuto Correa on percussion, Melvin "Wah Wah Watson" Ragin and David T. Kathleen Wakefield (also Kathy Wakefield) is an American songwriter, singer and fiction author known for co-writing The Supremes' hit single " Nathan Jones" that was released by Motown and used as a soundtrack for the film ''Rain Man'' and for co-writing the Grammy-winning song " One Hundred Ways." Personal life and education Wakefield grew up in the Seattle area and attended the University of Washington. She splits her time between Los Angeles and Seattle after living part-time in London. ''Lookin' Through the Windows'' is the sixth studio album by the Jackson 5, released on the Motown label in May 1972. Production ''Lookin' Through the Windows'' marks the beginning of lead singer Michael Jackson, Michael's vocal change, from the boy soprano who fronted the Jackson 5's early hits, to the tenor who would later become a successful solo artist. Though he could still reach his famed high notes, his voice was filling out, allowing him to also reach lower registers. Stephen Lawrence Schwartz (born March 6, 1948) is an American musical theater lyricist and composer. In a career spanning over five decades, Schwartz has written such hit musicals as ''Godspell'' (1971), ''Pippin'' (1972), and ''Wicked'' (2003). ''Pippin'' is a 1972 musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Roger O. Hirson. Bob Fosse, who directed the original Broadway production, also contributed to the libretto. The musical uses the premise of a mysterious performance troupe, led by the Leading Player, to tell the story of Pippin, a young prince on his search for meaning and significance. The 'fourth wall' is broken numerous times during most traditional productions.
