''Skyline'' is a 1931 American Pre-Code drama film directed by Sam Taylor and starring silent film veteran Thomas Meighan. It is based on a novel—''East Side, West Side''—by Felix Riesenberg. Sam Taylor (director)
Sam Taylor (August 13, 1895 – March 6, 1958) was an American film director, screenwriter, and producer, most active in the silent film era. Taylor is best known for his comedic directorial work with Harold Lloyd and Mary Pickford, and also later worked with Laurel and Hardy. He was born in New York City. A notorious cinematic legend over the decades has suggested that Taylor's 1929 adaptation of Shakespeare's ''The Taming of the Shrew'' had the screen credit "additional dialogue by Sam Taylor". However, no extant prints of the film contain this credit, and there is no documentary evidence that it ever existed. Taylor directed seven feature films with Lloyd as star, second only to Fred C. Newmeyer (the two co-directed Lloyd in five features). He also directed Pickford in her first "talkie" feature with ''Coquette'' (1929), which garnered the latter an Academy Award. Stanley Fields (born Walter L. Agnew; May 20, 1883April 23, 1941) was an American actor. Biography On Broadway, Fields performed in ''Fifty Miles from Boston'' (1908) and ''The Red Widow'' (1911). After that, for eight years, Fields performed in vaudeville with Frank Fay. he started on a film career with a screen debut as a gunman in her talkie '' New York Nights''. In 1930, he signed a long-term contract with Paramount Pictures. He died on April 23, 1941, of a heart attack. Bergetta "Dorothy" Peterson (25 December 1897 - 3 October 1979) was an American actress. She began her acting career on Broadway before appearing in more than eighty Hollywood films. Early years Peterson was born in Hector, Minnesota, the daughter of Oscar Frank Peterson and Emily Johnson Peterson. She had a brother, Buford, and was raised in Zion, Illinois. She was of Swedish ancestry. She studied at a dramatic school, performing in adaptations of Greek plays, and then attended the Chicago Musical College. Career Billed by her birth name, Peterson acted with a company in ''Icebound'' at the Montauk Theater in Brooklyn, New York, in September 1923. For two years, Peterson toured with Borgony Hammer's Ibsen Repertory Company. She left that troupe to go to New York, where she began performing in Broadway productions. Don Dillaway
Donald Provost Dillaway (March 17, 1903 – November 18, 1982) was an American stage and film actor. Early years Dillaway's mother, billed as Nettie Gordon, sang in vaudeville. Because she and his father insisted on a professional career for him, he studied law in Buffalo. He disliked that profession so much, however, that he moved to New York. Eventually his parents accepted his preference for entertaining and encouraged him in that career. Career Dillaway had numerous appearances on Broadway. His Broadway debut came in ''The Backslapper'' (1925). In 1927, Dillaway was one of seven actors who were found guilty in New York City of participating in the production of an obscene play, ''The Virgin Man''. They received suspended sentences, and three producers of the play were fined $250 each and sentenced to 10 days in the workhouse. In 1928, Dillaway acted with the Lakewood Players. Robert McWade (January 25, 1872 – January 19, 1938), was an American stage and film actor. McWade was born in Buffalo, New York. He was the third actor named Robert McWade, after his father and grandfather. In 1902, McWade debuted on stage with the Murray Hill Stock Company. From 1903 to 1927, he appeared in at least 38 Broadway productions, his last being ''Devil In The Cheese'' (1926), with Bela Lugosi and Fredric March. McWade also appeared in 83 films between 1924 and 1938, for example ''42nd Street'' with Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler (1933). His older brother was character actor Edward McWade. McWade was married to Minne Lee, and they had two sons. On January 19, 1938, McWade died of heart disease in Culver City, California, at age 65. Myrna Loy (born Myrna Adele Williams; August 2, 1905 – December 14, 1993) was an American film, television and stage actress. Trained as a dancer, Loy devoted herself fully to an acting career following a few minor roles in silent films. She was originally typecast in exotic roles, often as a vamp or a woman of Asian descent, but her career prospects improved greatly following her portrayal of Nora Charles in ''The Thin Man'' (1934). Born in Helena, Montana, Loy was raised in rural Radersburg during her early childhood, before relocating to Los Angeles with her mother in her early adolescence. There, she began studying dance, and trained extensively throughout her high school education. She was discovered by production designer Natacha Rambova, who helped facilitate film auditions for her, and she began obtaining small roles in the late 1920s, mainly portraying vamps.
