Skotfoss
Skotfoss is a village in Skien Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The village is located along the river Farelva where lake Norsjø feeds into the Skien watershed. It is located across the river from the village of Åfoss. It is located about west of the town of Skien. The village has a population of about 1,700 people. Skotfoss Church is located in the village. History The village of Skotfoss was built up around the waterfall and its associated industry. Skotfoss was a part of Solum Municipality until the municipalities of Solum and Skien were merged on 1 January 1964. Skottfoss used to be home to one of North Europe's biggest paper factories, Skotfoss Bruk. Paper from the factory was exported around the world, including to New York City where the paper was used by the New York Times. The factory closed in 1986. Skotfoss Church
Skotfoss Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Skien Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. It is located in the village of Skotfoss. It is one of the churches for the ''Gulset og Skotfoss'' parish which is part of the Skien prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1900 using plans drawn up by the architect Haldor Børve. The church seats about 420 people. History The rural areas of Skotfoss were historically part of the Melum Church parish. During the 19th century, the Norske Skog Union opened the Skotfoss Bruk paper mill which attracted many workers to the area. During the 1890s, plans were made for a new church in Skotfoss to serve the growing population. The church was designed by Haldor Børve and the carpentry work was carried out by the workers from the local factory. Skotfoss TIF
Skotfoss Turn- og Idrettsforening is a Norwegian multi-sports club from Skotfoss, Skien, Telemark. It has sections for association football, gymnastics and Nordic skiing. The club was founded on 29 December 1899. The club colours are white with red, white and blue. The men's football team was contesting the 2017 4. divisjon until pulling its team from competition. It was formerly a staple in the 3. divisjon, with a presence for most of the 1990s until 1998, and from 2001 through 2010 with a last appearance in 2012. Frode Johnsen
Frode Johnsen (born 17 March 1974) is a Norwegian former professional footballer who played for Odd and Rosenborg in the Tippeligaen and for Nagoya Grampus and Shimizu S-Pulse in Japan. He played in several positions, but was preferred as a striker or midfielder. Johnsen is 188 cm tall, and was a good header of the ball. In his final season for Odds BK in 2015, Johnsen won the Kniksen's Honour Award for his long career as a footballer. He retired in the age of 41. In 2013, he became the topscorer in Tippeligaen, which also made him the oldest topscorer in a European league ever. Telemark () is a Counties of Norway, county and a current electoral district in Norway. Telemark borders the counties of Vestfold, Buskerud, Vestland, Rogaland and Agder. Solum, Norway
Solum is a former municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1964. The area is now part of Skien Municipality. The administrative centre was the village of Solum, just south of Klovholt. Solum Church was the main church for the municipality. History The parish of Solum was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt law). According to the 1835 census, the municipality had a population of 3,557. Solum is located west of the town of Skien, and encompassed districts such as Nenset, Tollnes, Flakvarp, Skotfoss, and Klyve. On 1 July 1916, an area of Solum Municipality (population: 1,042) was annexed by the growing town of Skien. The Skien watershed is the third largest watershed of Norway after those of the Glomma and the Drammen rivers. The catchment area is , and the maximum length is . The Skien watershed includes rivers which feed Lake Norsjø above Skien; * Vinje-Tokke watershed, which includes lakes Totak, Bandak, Kviteseidvatn and Flåvatn.
