Skiptvet Church
Skiptvet Church ( no, Skiptvet kirke) is a medieval stone church dedicated to the Virgin Mary in Skiptvet in Viken county, Norway. Supposedly built in the second half of the 12th century (the date is not documented), it stands on a ridge west of the Glomma River. The church belongs to the Church of Norway and is part of the Deanery of Vestre Borgesyssel in the Diocese of Borg. The original church burned in 1762 and parts of it were rebuilt. None of the original furnishings remain. Skiptvet was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see '' formannskapsdistrikt''). General information Name The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old Skiptvet farm (Old Norse: ''Skipþveit'' and/or ''Skygþveit'') because the first church was built here. Sounding Board
A sounding board, also known as a tester and abat-voix is a structure placed above and sometimes also behind a pulpit or other speaking platform that helps to project the sound of the speaker. Ulrik Hendriksen
Ulrik Adolph Hendriksen (March 7, 1891 – January 24, 1960) was a Danish-Norwegian painter and graphic artist. Hendriksen was born in Faaborg, Denmark. He studied restoration techniques at the Berlin Art Academy from 1909 to 1911 and then moved to Norway, where he was an assistant to Emanuel Vigeland. He was highly involved in church conservation until the Second World War. His work was summarized in 1952 in a large-scale photo exhibition of Norwegian decorative painting art. As a painter, he participated in the Autumn Exhibition ( no, Høstutstillingen) in 1919 and he eventually had a permanent atelier. Hendriksen's paintings were featured at exhibitions in Copenhagen, Rome, and Paris (at the 1931 Paris Colonial Exposition), and he is represented in the National Museum of Art, Architecture, and Design. Ridge Turret
A ridge turret is a turret or small tower constructed over the ridge or apex between two or more sloping roofs of a building. It is usually built either as an architectural ornament for purely decorative purposes or else for the practical housing of a clock, a bell or an observation platform. Viken (county)
Viken is a county under disestablishment in Eastern Norway that was established on 1 January 2020 by the merger of Akershus, Buskerud and Østfold with the addition of three other municipalities. Viken was controversial from the onset, with an approval rating of about 20% in the region, and the merger was resisted by all the three counties. Viken has been compared to gerrymandering. The county executive of Viken determined in 2019, before the merger had taken effect, that the county's disestablishment is its main political goal, and the formal process to dissolve Viken was initiated by the county executive in right after the 2021 Norwegian parliamentary election in which parties seeking to reverse the merger won a majority. Borg is a diocese in the Church of Norway. The diocese includes parishes in the counties of Østfold and Akershus, excluding Asker and Bærum. It was created in 1969 by separation from the Diocese of Oslo. The cathedral city is Fredrikstad. Fredrikstad Cathedral Fredrikstad Cathedral was designed by architect Waldemar F. Luhr and built in 1880. The cathedral as built of red brick and has a capacity of 1,100 seats. It was originally named Vestre Fredrikstad Church.
