Skimmer (dragonfly)
The skimmers or perchers and their relatives form the Libellulidae, the largest dragonfly family in the world. It is sometimes considered to contain the Corduliidae as the subfamily Corduliinae and the Macromiidae as the subfamily Macromiinae. Even if these are excluded (as Silsby does), there remains a family of over 1000 species. With nearly worldwide distribution, these are almost certainly the most often seen of all dragonflies. The genus ''Libellula'' is mostly New World, but also has one of the few endangered odonates from Japan: ''Libellula angelina''. Many of the members of this genus are brightly colored or have banded wings. The related genus ''Plathemis'' includes the whitetails. The genus ''Celithemis'' contains several brightly marked species in the southern United States. Members of the genus ''Sympetrum'' are called darters (or meadowhawks in North America) and are found throughout most of the world, except Australia. Several Southern Hemisphere species in the gene ...

Pantala Flavescens
''Pantala flavescens'', the globe skimmer, globe wanderer or wandering glider, is a wide-ranging dragonfly of the family Libellulidae. This species and ''Pantala hymenaea'', the "spot-winged glider", are the only members of the genus ''Pantala''. It was first described by Johan Christian Fabricius in 1798. It is considered to be the most widespread dragonfly on the planet with good population on every continent except Antarctica although rare in Europe. Globe skimmers make an annual multigenerational journey of some 18,000 km (about 11,200 miles); to complete the migration, individual globe skimmers fly more than 6,000 km (3,730 miles)β€”one of the farthest known migrations of all insect species. Characteristics Structure of the adult The dragonfly is up to 4.5 cm long, reaching wingspans between 7.2 cm and 8.4 cm. The front side of the head is yellowish to reddish. The thorax is usually yellow to golden coloured with a dark and hairy line. There were a ...

Atoconeura
''Atoconeura'' is a genus of dragonflies in the family Libellulidae. These dragonflies are generally about 28 to 39 millimeters long and are shiny black with yellow markings. They are native to Africa Africa is the world's second-largest and second-most populous continent, after Asia in both cases. At about 30.3 million km2 (11.7 million square miles) including adjacent islands, it covers 6% of Earth's total surface area ..., where they are usually found along fast-flowing rivers in forested habitat at some elevation. The genus has likely been isolated in higher-altitude habitat, and most of the species are limited to highlands.Dijkstra, K. (2006)The ''Atoconeura'' problem revisited: taxonomy, phylogeny and biogeography of a dragonfly genus in the highlands of Africa (Odonata, Libellulidae).''Tijdschrift voor Entomologie'', 149(2), 121-144.
