Skia (typeface)
Skia is a VOX-ATypI classification#Humanist, humanist sans-serif typeface designed by Matthew Carter for Apple Computer in 1994. ''Skia'' is Greek language, Greek for "shadow", and the letterforms take inspiration from stone-carved 1st century BC Greek writing. The typeface was the first QuickDraw GX font, and has been pre-installed in Mac operating systems since System 7 (Macintosh), System 7.5 (1994), and is in the current MacOS, Mac OS. Skia includes "GX variations" technology that – if an application offers the UI – allows its weight to be adjusted smoothly between thin and bold, and its width between narrow and extended. (Adobe's "multiple master fonts, multiple master" technology was similar.) In 2016 it was announced that several technology companies, including Google, Microsoft and Adobe Systems, Adobe are adopting Apple's GX variations as the basis of the variations specification inside OpenType 1.8, and since that announcement Skia has been much used to demonstrate t ...

Skia Graphics Engine
The Skia Graphics Engine or Skia is an open-source 2D graphics library written in C++. Skia abstracts away platform-specific graphics API (which differ from one to another). Skia Inc. originally developed the library; Google acquired it in 2005, and then released the software as open source licensed under the New BSD free software license in 2008. Overview In order to stay multi-platform Skia supports several (platform-dependent) back-ends. These include: * CPU software rasterization * Portable Document Format (PDF) output * GPU-accelerated rendering by using: ** ANGLE backed which translates OpenGL ES calls into vendor's native APIs ** Vulkan, and Metal. * Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) * XPS Skia is most similar in purpose to Cairo or Pathfinder (meaning that it focuses on drawing) rather than to other more elaborate APIs like that one of Qt that provide their own widgets and UI description language etc. Application The library is used in Google Chrome, ChromeOS, Chromiu ...

Shade (mythology)
In poetry and literature, a shade (translating Greek σκιά, Latin ''umbra'') is the spirit or ghost of a dead person, residing in the underworld. An underworld where the dead live in shadow was common to beliefs in the ancient Near East. In Biblical Hebrew, it was called ''tsalmaveth'' (צַלמָוֶת: lit. "death-shadow", "shadow of death") as an alternate term for Sheol. The Witch of Endor in the First Book of Samuel notably conjures the ghost (''owb'') of Samuel. Only select individuals were believed to be exempt from the fate of dwelling in shadow after death. They would instead ascend to the divine sphere, as is reflected in the veneration of heroes. Plutarch relates how Alexander the Great was inconsolable after the death of Hephaistion up to the moment he received an oracle of Ammon confirming that the deceased was a hero, i.e. enjoyed the status of a divinity."Alexander's grief for him exceeded all reasonable measure. He ordered the manes of all the horses and mul ...

South Kerry Independent Alliance
The Kerry Independent Alliance () is a minor political party in the Republic of Ireland. It was established as the South Kerry Independent Alliance by former Labour Party members in the 1990s based in the Kerry South constituency. Since 1999, it has only contested local elections in the Killarney area in County Kerry, and its only candidate has been Michael Gleeson, who was a Killarney town councillor from 1991 to 2014, and has been Kerry County Councillor since 1999. Gleeson was de-selected by the Labour Party as a candidate to contest the 1992 general election in favour of Breeda Moynihan-Cronin, which led to his leaving the party and later forming the SKIA with his supporters. The SKIA discussed a merger with the Labour Party in 2006, with Gleeson as the proposed Labour Party candidate at the 2007 general election, after Moynihan-Cronin announced her intention to retire from Dáil Éireann. However, the talks failed, Moynihan-Cronin stood for re-election, and subsequen ...
