''Sketches of Belgium'' is a 1993 album by jazz band K. D.'s Basement Party led by Kris Defoort. It is the first release of De Werf label, and the only release by K. D.'s Basement Party. The three musicians from Aka Moon play on the album. It was recorded on September 7, 8, 9, 30 and October 1 and 2 in 1992. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Saxophone
The saxophone (often referred to colloquially as the sax) is a type of single-reed woodwind instrument with a conical body, usually made of brass. As with all single-reed instruments, sound is produced when a reed on a mouthpiece vibrates to produce a sound wave inside the instrument's body. Variations On A Love Supreme
''Variations on A Love Supreme'' is a jazz album composed by Fabrizio Cassol and Kris Defoort. It contains variations on ''A Love Supreme'', the classic jazz album by the John Coltrane quartet. It was released in 1995 on the De Werf label, and is representative of the Belgian jazz scene. Variations on A Love Supreme is also the name of the big band (led by Kris Defoort and Fabrizio Cassol) performing those compositions, for example at La Monnaie, Brussels in 1999. Some musicians were replaced for some concerts; for example, Michel Massot by Geoffroy De Masure, and George Alexander Van Dam by Dominique Pifarely or Gunda Gottschalk. ''Sketches of Spain'' is an album by Miles Davis, recorded between November 1959 and March 1960 at the Columbia 30th Street Studio in New York City. An extended version of the second movement of Joaquín Rodrigo's ''Concierto de Aranjuez'' (1939) is included, as well as a piece called "Will o' the Wisp", from Manuel de Falla's ballet ''El amor brujo'' (1914–1915). ''Sketches of Spain'' is regarded as an exemplary recording of Third Stream, a musical fusion of jazz, European classical, and styles from world music. Background Davis' wife Frances Davis insisted he accompany her to a performance by flamenco dancer Roberto Iglesias. Inspired by the performance, Davis bought every flamenco album he could get at Colony Records shop in New York City. Trombone
The trombone (german: Posaune, Italian, French: ''trombone'') is a musical instrument in the Brass instrument, brass family. As with all brass instruments, sound is produced when the player's vibrating lips cause the Standing wave, air column inside the instrument to vibrate. Tuba

Michel Massot
Michel Massot (born 25 October 1960, in Halle) is a Belgian tuba and trombone jazz musician. He studied at ''Conservatoire de Liège''. He founded Trio Bravo with saxophonist Fabrizio Cassol and drummer Michel Debrulle in the middle of the 1980s. The band became Trio Grande in 1993 after the departure of Fabrizio Cassol, who was replaced by French saxophonist Laurent Dehors. Beside this, he also played with various musicians such as Garrett List, Henri Pousseur, Michel Hatzigeorgiou, Kris Defoort, Evan Parker and Kenny Wheeler (in the Klaus König Orchestra). He is now a teacher at ''Conservatoire de Liège'' (one of his courses is called ''Chamber Rock''). He also is part of the Rêve d'éléphant Orchestra septet. Fabrizio Cassol
Fabrizio Cassol (born 8 June 1964) is a Belgian saxophonist and the first user of the aulochrome (a double-reed instrument). He was born in Ougrée, Belgium. Between 1982 and 1985, he studied at the Liège conservatory and "obtained first prize for saxophone while majoring in chamber music". He also studied improvisation and composition. Cassol began to tour with his first band ( Trio Bravo, with Michel Massot and Michel Debrulle). He travelled to the Central African forest to encounter the Aka pygmies, which led to the formation of the band Aka Moon. Besides, he has performed with many other musicians. He has composed music for dance theatre and in 1995 he composed with Kris Defoort the album '' Variations on A Love Supreme''. He won the Belgian Golden Django in 1998. De Werf
De Werf was an arts center and jazz record label (W.E.R.F.) in Bruges, Belgium. In 2002, the label released an eleven-CD box set titled ''The Finest of Belgian Jazz'', with music by Greetings from Mercury, Aka Moon, Brussels Jazz Orchestra, and Kris Defoort. Rik Bevernage, De Werf's main collaborator, received an award at the 2002 Golden Django ceremony. In 2017, De Werf and Vrijstaat O (Ostend) merged into a new organisation, KAAP. The W.E.R.F. record label continues its activities under the original name. De Werf has its own concert hall where many jazz bands perform. There are also theatre pieces and events for children. In February 2009, public funding for the venue was removed because the club didn't produce relevant or up-to-date concerts and theatre performances, making a closure of De Werf from 31 December 2009 likely. Bass Guitar
The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. It is a plucked string instrument similar in appearance and construction to an electric or an acoustic guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and typically four to six strings or courses.
