Skatenigs
The Skatenigs are a punk industrial metal band from San Marcos, Texas, Texas which formed in the late 1980s. History The Skatenigs' lead singer, Phil "Phildo" Owen, previously performed on the album ''Beers, Steers, and Queers'' by the Revolting Cocks, and performed with the band on tour from 1989 to 1991. They released the single "Chemical Imbalance" in 1991 on Wax Trax! Records. Its B-side was a cover of the Big Boys song "Big Picture". Their debut album, ''Stupid People Shouldn't Breed'', was released on Megaforce Records in 1992. It was produced by Ministry (band), Ministry frontman Al Jourgensen, making the Skatenigs the first Texas band to attract Ministry's attention. Also in 1992, Owen produced ''Burning in Water, Drowning in Flame (album), Burning in Water, Drowning in Flame'', the debut album by fellow Texans from Corpus Christi Skrew. Megaforce Records is an American independent record label founded in 1982 by Jon Zazula and his wife Marsha Zazula to release the first works of Metallica, and devoted primarily to hard rock and heavy metal. It has offices in New York City (where the corporate office is located) and Philadelphia. The label is distributed in the United States by RED Distribution, having previously been distributed by Atlantic Records while Anthrax's recordings from 1985 to 1991 were marketed by Island Records. Megaforce artists that have appeared on the Billboard Top 200 chart include Metallica, Blue October, Anthrax, Overkill, Testament, Mushroomhead, Ministry, Bad Brains and Meat Puppets. ''Beers, Steers + Queers'' (stylized as ''BEERS, STEERS + QVEERS: THE ALBVM'') is the second studio album by American–Belgian industrial rock band Revolting Cocks. Released in May 1990, the album was supported by three singles and was reissued several times. Its sound is industrial and built upon repetitive percussion and samples. David Jeffries of AllMusic described ''Beers, Steers + Queers'' as dominating college radio and clubs. The album's supporting tour was recalled by Chris Connelly as “ridiculous” and particularly chaotic. Content The album opens with a telephone conversation between two southerners discussing an upcoming local appearance by the Revolting Cocks. They are unfamiliar with the band and interpret the name as belonging to a male strip show. Big Boys were an American pioneering punk rock band who are credited with having helped to create and introduce skate punk as a new style of music, which became popular in the 1980s. They also were famous for bringing elements of funk into their hardcore punk style. History Formation Formed in 1977 in Austin, Texas, United States, the original band members were Randy "Biscuit" Turner on vocals, Tim Kerr on guitar and Chris Gates on bass. Wax Trax! Records is an American independent record label based in Chicago. It began as a record shop in Denver, Colorado, opened by life partners Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher, who sold the store in 1978 and moved to Chicago. In November of that year, they opened a store under the same name in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. During the 1980s and 1990s, the accompanying record label became a presence on the new wave and punk rock scenes in the city, and an outlet for European bands. The label was purchased in 1992 by TVT Records and was discontinued in 2001. In 2014, it was re-established by Julia Nash, daughter of co-founder Jim Nash. Richard Giraldi of the ''Chicago Sun-Times'' wrote, "As important as Chess Records was to blues and soul music, Chicago's Wax Trax imprint was just as significant to the punk rock, new wave and industrial genres." Paul Vincent Raven (16 January 1961 – 20 October 2007) was an English bassist best known for his work in the post-punk group Killing Joke. He later played in the industrial music bands Prong, Ministry, and Zilch. Biography Raven was born on 16 January 1961 in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire. He was the son of folk musician Jon Raven, and nephew of author Michael Raven. His early musical career included stints in Neon Hearts, who released three singles from 1977 to 1979 and the album ''Popular Music'' in 1979, and the short-lived 1982 glam rock band, Kitsch, which also included Rook Randle and Tyla, before he would go on to larger success with his band, Dogs D'Amour. In the summer of 1980 he played bass with the also short-lived Tony McPhee's Turbo. The band played a few gigs and recorded a three-track session for Capitol Radio. Lee James Jude Capallero (born April 10, 1950), also known as Lee Ving, is an American guitarist, singer and actor. Ving is the frontman of the Los Angeles-based hardcore punk band Fear. As an actor, Ving played topless club owner Johnny C. in ''Flashdance'' (1983), motorcycle gang leader Greer in '' Streets of Fire'' (1984) and murder victim Mr. Boddy in the murder mystery film ''Clue'' (1985). Early life Ving was born Lee James Jude Capallero in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and grew up in the city's Kensington neighborhood.
