Skate Electric
The St. Ivel International was an annual international figure skating competition at the Richmond Ice Rink in England. Sponsored by the National Ice Skating Association, it included competitions in men's singles, ladies' singles, pairs, and ice dancing. In most years it was held in late September or early October. History The competition was first held in 1978 under the name Rotary Watches International and was renamed in 1980 when it became sponsored by the St. Ivel dairy product brand. In 1988, the event was renamed to (or replaced by) Skate Electric, which in some years was held in both spring and fall versions. The competition originally scheduled for October 1991 was cancelled due to loss of sponsorship, and the British federation has not held another annual senior international competition in the years since. Rudi Cerne
Rudi Cerne (born 26 September 1958) is a German TV presenter and former figure skater. He is the 1984 European silver medalist and a two-time West German national champion. He competed at two Winter Olympics, finishing fourth in 1984. Personal life Cerne was born on 26 September 1958 in Wanne-Eickel, West Germany. His father was a figure skater. In 1987, Cerne married his wife Christiane, with whom he has a daughter. Career Figure skating When he was six years old, Cerne was introduced to ice skating by his father, a former ice skater who had lost a leg in the war. His skating club was Herner EV in Herne, Germany. He was coached by Günter Zöller and was a member of West Germany's national team in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Paul Wylie
Paul Stanton Wylie (born October 28, 1964) is an American figure skater, and the 1992 Olympic silver medalist in men's singles skating. Personal life Paul Stanton Wylie was born on October 24, 1964 in Dallas, Texas to Bob Wylie (a geophysicist) and B.L. Wylie (a realtor) — the youngest of three children. In Dallas, he attended St. Mark's School of Texas. When he was eleven, his family moved to Denver, Colorado, where he focused increasingly on skating and graduated from Colorado Academy. Wylie attended Harvard University and graduated in 1991 with a degree in government. After competing in the 1992 Winter Olympics, as he planned, he retired from amateur competition and began his professional skating career. Richard Zander
Richard Zander (born March 3, 1964) is a German former competitive figure skater. He is a two-time German national champion. Zander was born in Portland, Oregon, United States to German parents. Christopher Nicol Bowman (March 30, 1967 – January 10, 2008) was an American figure skater. He was a two-time World medalist (silver in 1989, bronze in 1990), the 1983 World Junior champion, and a two-time U.S. national champion. Viktor Vasyliovych Petrenko ( uk, Віктор Васильович Петренко; born 27 June 1969) is a Ukrainian former competitive figure skater who represented the Soviet Union, the Unified Team, and Ukraine during his career. He is the 1992 Olympic Champion for the Unified Team. Petrenko became the first flagbearer for Ukraine. Brian Anthony Boitano (born October 22, 1963) is an American figure skater from Sunnyvale, California. He is the 1988 Olympic champion, the 1986 and 1988 World Champion, and the 1985–1988 U.S. National Champion. He turned professional following the 1988 season. Under new rules by the ISU, he returned to competition in 1993 and competed at the 1994 Winter Olympics, where he placed sixth. He returned to professional status. Falko Kirsten (born 3 January 1964) is a German former figure skater. He is the 1980 World Junior Figure Skating Championships, World Junior bronze medalist, the 1983 St. Ivel International bronze medalist, and a five-time East German Figure Skating Championships, East German national champion. Gary Beacom
Gary Beacom (born February 23, 1960) is a Canadian figure skater, choreographer and author. He is the 1983 and 1984 Canadian silver medalist and finished 11th at the 1984 Winter Olympics. Career Beacom began skating at the age of six. In 1983 and 1984, he won the silver medal at the Canadian Championships behind Brian Orser. He finished 11th at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo and 10th at the 1984 World Championships. In the latter part of his amateur competitive career, he coached himself while studying full-time for a university degree. In his professional career, Beacom specialized in unusual moves, notably in his performance to Leonard Cohen's '' I'm Your Man''. He won the 1988 World Professional Championships.
