Sixth Jayalalithaa Ministry
J. Jayalalithaa was sworn in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on 23 May 2016. Two major political parties Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) faced the assembly election held on 16 May 2016 for the 232 seats (except Thanjavur and Aravakurichi for which held on 26 October 2016) of the Legislative Assembly in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. AIADMK under J. Jayalalithaa won the elections and became the first ruling party to be re-elected in the state since 1984 with a simple majority. On 22 September 2016, Jayalalithaa was hospitalised as her health condition worsened. Her official duties were handed over to her aide O. Panneerselvam on 12 October 2016, though she continued to remain as the chief minister of the state. On 5 December 2016, the hospital announced her death and O. Udumalai, also known as Udumalaipettai and Udumalpet (), is a town in Tiruppur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Udumalaipettai is located 535 km (332 mi) south west from the state capital, Chennai and 72 km (45 mi) away from Coimbatore, the second largest city in the state. It is famous for spinning mills.
