''Turnpike Diaries'' is the second and final studio album by the Norwegian band The Getaway People. It was originally scheduled to be released in June 2000, but ultimately was not released until July 18 of the same year. Recording sessions took place at RPM Studios in New York City. Production was handled by Nick Sansano, Dante Ross, John Gamble and the band themselves. The album peaked at number 19 on the Norwegian VG-lista albums chart. The album's first song, " Six Pacs", was used as the theme song for the TV series ''Young Americans''. The track "Good Life" was featured in the US sitcom, ''Malcolm in the Middle''. The album's second track “There She Goes” was featured in the critically acclaimed 2000 cheerleading comedy film ''Bring It On''. The Getaway People was a Norwegian alternative rock band best known for their song " Six Pacs" which was used as the theme song for the television series ''Young Americans''. History The Getaway People formed in Stavanger, Norway in 1994 with the intention to "write songs about getting away from everyday pressures through whatever means necessary to give breathing space so we can function better." The band's first album ''The Getaway People'' was released in 1998. Its first single "She Gave Me Love" received airplay from some alternative radio stations. The band toured with Dave Matthews Band, Barenaked Ladies and Semisonic during this time. After signing with Columbia Records, the band released their second and final album ''Turnpike Diaries''. The show debuted on July 12, 2000, on The WB network as a summer replacement for, and spin-off from another Columbia TriStar Television production, ''Dawson's Creek''.
