Six Mile Run Reformed Church
The Six Mile Run Reformed Church is in the Six Mile Run section of Franklin Township, Somerset County, New Jersey. It takes its name from Six Mile Run, a tributary of the Millstone River that flows through the area. History The congregation met at the Church of the Three Mile Run, which was built in 1703. As the congregation grew, new churches were split off with a portion of the congregation. The Six Mile Run congregation emerged in 1710. In 1720, Reverend Theodorus Jacobus Frelinghuysen became the permanent pastor. He was sent from Holland to take charge of the Dutch churches of Middlesex, Somerset, and Hunterdon counties. The first building on the present site was built in 1745. The first building was replaced by a new building in 1766 and was later replaced in 1817 by a third structure on the same site. Route 27 is a state highway in New Jersey, United States. It runs from U.S. Route 206 (US 206) in Princeton, Mercer County northeast to an interchange with Route 21 (McCarter Highway) and Broad Street in Newark, Essex County. The route passes through many communities along the way, including New Brunswick, Highland Park, Edison, Metuchen, Rahway, and Elizabeth. Route 27 is a two- to four-lane undivided highway for most of its length, passing through a variety of urban and suburban environments. Theodorus Jacobus Frelinghuysen
Theodorus Jacobus Frelinghuysen ( – ) was a Dutch-American Dutch Reformed minister, theologian and the progenitor of the Frelinghuysen family in the United States of America. Frelinghuysen is most remembered for his religious contributions in the Raritan Valley during the beginnings of the First Great Awakening. Several of his descendants became influential theologians and politicians throughout American history. Birth and emigration He was born in Lingen, East Friesland, to Johann Henrich Frelinghaus, a Dutch-Reformed minister; and to Anna Margaretha Brüggemann Frelinghaus (1657–1728). Frelinghuysen graduated from the University of Lingen in 1717 and he was ordained as a minister of the Dutch Reformed Church in 1715. For fourteen months he was a minister in Loegumer Voorwerk, in East Friesland, and then for a short time he was co-rector of the Latin school in Enkhuizen, in the Netherlands. Domine Johannes Arondeus (c.1710 – c.1796) was one of the earliest pastors in American history who was sent to the Middle Colonies during the height of the First Great Awakening by the Dutch Church in Holland. The purpose of the Great Awakening was Evangelism and it adopted the evangelical style of preaching that held conservative theological views believing in the Bible as the word of GodEvangelistsin the United States alone, make up one quarter of the population today. Evangelicalism has become a significant force in American politics. Early life and work Arondeus was born in Overschie near Rotterdam between 1700 and 1710 and died in Morris County, New Jersey. The ''Central New Jersey Home News Tribune'' is a Daily newspaper serving Middlesex County, New Jersey. The paper has an average daily weekday circulation of about 49,000. The newspaper is the result of the 1995 merger of ''The Home News'' of East Brunswick (founded 1879) and ''The News Tribune'' of Woodbridge Township. The News Tribune was previously known as "The Perth Amboy Evening News." The combined paper, initially renamed the ''Home News & Tribune'' before the ampersand was removed, was sold to Gannett in 1997. In 2009, some production operations were moved and consolidated with those of Central Jersey Gannett newspapers. Those operations are now located in Neptune. The Road Up Raritan Historic District is a historic district located along River Road in the township of Piscataway in Middlesex County, New Jersey. With It is north of Raritan Landing, once an important inland port on the Raritan River during the 18th and 19th centuries. The name is taken from an earlier colonial era name for what was once a Lenape path, Assunpink Trail that became a main road parallel to the river.
