Sivar Nordström (11 March 1933 – November 2013) was a Swedish orienteering competitor. Orienteering
Orienteering is a group of sports that require navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain whilst moving at speed. Participants are given a topographical map, usually a specially prepared orienteering map, which they use to find control points. Originally a training exercise in land navigation for military officers, orienteering has developed many variations. Among these, the oldest and the most popular is foot orienteering. European Orienteering Championships
The European Orienteering Championships were first held in 1962. They have been held biennially since 2000. From 2020, the European Orienteering Championships will be held annually, with sprint events and forest events in alternate years. Format The competition format has changed several times. From the beginning in 1962, the World Championships consisted of only two competitions: an individual race and an unofficial relay. The relay event was an official event for the first time in the 1964 European Championships. EOC was not arranged from 1964 to 2000. In 2000, a sprint race (roughly 12–15 minutes winning time). Løten is a municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Hedemarken. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Løten. Tiomila
Tiomila or 10-mila is an orienteering race held annually in Sweden since 1945, usually in late April or early May. It is a 10-man relay which includes both night and daytime legs. The women's race consists of five daylight legs. Tiomila attracts club teams from all the major orienteering nations. In 2008, both the men's and the women's race consisted of about 350 teams. In 2019, there were 336 women's teams, and 310 men's teams. The name means "ten mil" (100 km) and refers to the total distance run by each team. The actual distance, however, varies from year to year. The 2015 edition was measured to along the straight line between the controls. O-Ringen
The O-Ringen (previously called the “Swedish 5 days”) is an orienteering competition that takes place annually in different areas of Sweden. Orienteers from all over the world come to the competition. For orienteers around the world a trip to the O'ringen 5-days is their Mecca. This race attracts significant media coverage in Sweden and winning O-Ringen is often considered second only to the World Championships in prestige. The competition takes place in July, and takes place over 5 days, where every active day is a competition stage. Competitors are assigned start times for the first four stages of the race, but on the fifth and final stage a "chasing start" is used. In a chasing start the overall leader in each class starts first and the remaining competitors start according to the total time they trail. Peo Bengtsson
Peo (Per-Olof) Bengtsson, born 18 August 1933 near Kristianstad, is a Swedish orienteer and promotor of orienteering. Bengtsson worked as an officer, ending as a major at the Wendes Artillery Regiment (A 3). Bengtsson got a bronze medal in the Swedish Championships in night orienteering both in 1961 and 1964. He was part of the Swedish team in 1964 and 1965. Bengtsson has competed several times in the World Championships for veterans. He won a gold medal in sprint in 2015 and a gold medal in long distance in 2019. Bengtsson started to promote orienteering in the world in the 1960s. He took contacts with Sven Thofelt in order to make orienteering an olympic sport. Bengtsson and Sivar Nordström started the first O-Ringen in 1965. Bengtsson lead together with Nils-Gunnar Albinsson the arrangements for O-Ringen in 1970 in Kristianstad. Bengtsson has orienteered in 110 countries. Male (symbol: ♂) is the sex of an organism that produces the gamete (sex cell) known as sperm, which fuses with the larger female gamete, or ovum, in the process of fertilization. A male organism cannot reproduce sexually without access to at least one ovum from a female, but some organisms can reproduce both sexually and asexually.
