Siv Hallgren
Siv Hallgren (born 1964) is a Norwegian lawyer and civil servant. Career She hails from Bekkelaget in Oslo. She graduated with the cand.jur. degree from the University of Oslo in 1990. She was a prosecutor in Asker and Bærum Police District from 1994 to 2002, then a lawyer. She gained attention as a defender in the NOKAS robbery trial. In 2005, she was made partner in the law firm Elden. Among others, she was a coordinating court-appointed lawyer for victims during the 2011 Norway attacks trial, together with Frode Elgesem and Mette Yvonne Larsen. In late 2016 she was named as chair of the Criminal Cases Review Commission, assuming the chair in 2017. In her position, she especially received attention for the commission's deliberations of the Baneheia murder trial. She ultimately voted against reopening the conviction of Viggo Kristiansen, but as she was outvoted and the case was reopened, Kristiansen ended up being acquitted. Criminal Cases Review Commission (Norway)
The Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) is the statutory body responsible for investigating alleged miscarriages of justice in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. It was established by Section 8 of the Criminal Appeal Act 1995 and began work on 31 March 1997. The commission is the only body in its area of jurisdiction with the power to send a case back to an appeals court if it concludes that there is a real possibility that the court will overturn a conviction or reduce a sentence. Since starting work in 1997, it has on average referred 33 cases a year for appeal. Baneheia Murders
The Baneheia murders ( no, Baneheia-drapene) was a Double murder, double rape and murder that occurred in Norway on 19 May 2000. The victims were two girls, 10-year-old Lena Sløgedal Paulsen and 8-year-old Stine Sofie Austegard Sørstrønen. They were found raped and killed in the Baneheia area in Kristiansand. The murders received massive media attention in Norway in the early 2000s. Two men were convicted (in 2001) for the murders: Jan Helge Andersen (born 1981) and Viggo Kristiansen (born 1979). Andersen was convicted of the murder and rape of Sørstrønen, but acquitted of the murder of Paulsen. The conviction of Andersen was based on a DNA match from the scene and a confession to the killing of Sørstrønen. Kristiansen was convicted of rape and murder of both girls and sentenced to 21 years of Life imprisonment in Norway, containment in 2001 and 2002. Bekkelaget is a neighborhood in the borough Nordstrand in Oslo, Norway. Originally, Bekkelaget was the maritime area south of Oslo city, in Aker municipality adjacent to the Bunnefjorden. With the opening of the Østfold Line, Bekkelaget station was opened, and the elevated area between Ekeberg and Nordstrand was built up and more densely populated. This area was called Bekkelagshøgda, while the maritime area became known as Nedre Bekkelaget. This area is separated by Ormsund with Ormøya.
