Katherine Mary Clutterbuck
Katherine Mary Clutterbuck (October 1860 in Wiltshire, England – 31 July 1946 in Nedlands, Western Australia), usually known as Sister Kate, was an Anglican nun who pioneered a cottage home system for looking after orphan babies and children in Western Australia. She later became well known for her work with Indigenous Australian children who were selected according to a criterion of skin colour and sent to her homes to groom the young "nearly white" children for absorption into the white community. These children would later be described as part of the Stolen Generation. Clutterbuck was the daughter of well-off parents, Captain Clutterbuck and his wife. She was awarded an Order of the British Empire (Member of the Civil Division), on 1 January 1934, for her services to disadvantaged children. ''Sister Kate'' is an American sitcom created by Frank Dungan, Jeff Stein and Tony Sheehan, that aired on NBC from September 16, 1989 to July 30, 1990, during the 1989–1990 television season. Synopsis The series stars Stephanie Beacham as Sister Kate, a nun who is transferred (in the pilot episode) to run an orphanage in Chicago. Sister Kate is put in charge of a group of seven unwanted orphans who, due to their scheming ways, have already run off three priests. Story lines involved Sister Kate matching wits with the kids, and the kids' potential adoptions. ''Sister Kate'' premiered on Saturday, September 16, 1989 at 9:30 EST as a sneak preview, and aired regularly at 8:00 EST on Sundays. The low-rated series was canceled after nineteen episodes. ''Chrono Crusade'', originally known in Japan as , due to a typo, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Daisuke Moriyama. It was originally published by Kadokawa Shoten in ''Comic Dragon'', then a special issue of the ''Dragon Magazine''. A 24-episode anime television series by Gonzo based on the manga ran from 2003 to 2004 on Fuji TV. The series was released in North America by ADV Manga and ADV Films, titled ''Chrono Crusade''. "I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate", often simply "Sister Kate", is an up-tempo jazz dance song, written by Armand J. Piron and published in 1922. Louis Armstrong claimed he had written the song and sold it for 10$ he never received. Kate was a murdered brothel madame named Katie Townsend. Kid Ory recorded it with original Armstrong lyrics in Denmark Nov 13th 1959, but never used this lyrics in the USA. Early recordings listed at Discogsbr>include 1922 sides by Mary Straine And Joseph Smith's Jazz Band on Black Swan Records; The Virginians on Victor; and The Original Memphis Five, as an instrumental, on Pathé Actuelle. Vocalist Anna Jones recorded it accompanied by Fats Waller on piano in 1923. ''Sister Kate'' is singer Kate Taylor's first album, released in 1971. The album features versions of songs by a number of different artists, including "Where You Lead" and "Home Again" which also appeared on Carole King's ''Tapestry'' album that same year, as well as two songs which had been recently been covered by Rod Stewart: "Handbags and Gladrags" and "Country Comfort". "Country Comfort" and "Ballad of a Well Known Gun" are two Elton John/Bernie Taupin compositions. The album also features a composition by Taylor's brother Livingston and two by brother James.
