Sister (In Solitude Album)
''Sister'' is the third and final album by Swedish heavy metal band In Solitude. This is their second album to be released through Metal Blade Records, having signed with the label in 2010, and was released on 1 October 2013. The album was recorded at Studio Cobra in Stockholm in March 2013 and was produced and mixed by Martin "Konie" Ehrencrona. Reception The album averaged 78/100 on Metacritic which indicates "generally favorable reviews". Andy O'Connor, writing for Pitchfork, gave the album 7.1/10 and was largely positive about the album. In particular, he praised the song "Pallid Hands", writing that the song "brings a romanticism that hasn't been seen in metal in a while, and is the group's finest song to date. It recalls 70s Judas Priest's more bittersweet moments, a casualty of the group's success in the 80s, or a more serious stab at April Wine's ' Sign of the Gypsy Queen'. In Solitude
In Solitude was a Swedish heavy metal band from Uppsala. History The band formed in 2002 with Henrik Helenius, Niklas Lindström, Gottfrid Åhman, and Uno Bruniusson. Pelle Åhman (Gottfrid's brother) joined the band as their lead vocalist in 2003. They released their first, self-titled demo in 2004. The following year, vocalist/guitarist Henrik Heleius left the band and was replaced by Mattias Gustafsson in the same year. In 2006 the band released the second demo, ''Hidden Dangers'', and in 2008, Sweden's S.M.P. Records released the EP ''Hidden Dangers'' as a 7″. Shortly after this the band released their self-titled full-length debut in the form of a CD on Pure Steel Records and on vinyl through High Roller Records. The album was recorded at Burlesco Studios at the same as the demos, and was produced by Hasse Bruniusson. Judas Priest
Judas Priest are an English heavy metal band formed in Birmingham in 1969. They have sold over 50 million albums and are frequently ranked as one of the greatest metal bands of all time. Despite an innovative and pioneering body of work in the latter half of the 1970s, the band had struggled with indifferent record production and a lack of major commercial success until 1980, when they rose to commercial success with the album '' British Steel''. Swans (band)
Swans is an American experimental rock band formed in 1982 by singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Michael Gira. One of the few acts to emerge from the New York City-based no wave scene and stay intact into the next decade, Swans have become recognized for an ever-changing sound, exploring genres such as noise rock, post-punk, industrial music, industrial and post-rock. Initially, their music was known for its sonic brutality and misanthropic lyrics. Following the addition of singer, songwriter and keyboardist Jarboe in 1986, Swans began to incorporate melody and intricacy into their music. Jarboe remained the band's only constant member except Gira and semi-constant guitarist Norman Westberg until their dissolution in 1997. Jarboe
Jarboe Devereaux, known mononymously as Jarboe (), is an American singer and musician who came to prominence as a member of the New York City experimental rock band Swans in 1985. Jarboe and Michael Gira, the founder of Swans, were the two constant members of the group until it broke up in 1997. Although absent from the group's lineup when the band reformed in 2010, Jarboe contributed background vocals and voice collage for the band's 2012 album, ''The Seer''. She has released numerous solo albums and collaborations, many of which have been self-published. She also co-composed the soundtrack of the 2009 psychological horror game '' The Path''. "Sign of the Gypsy Queen" is a song written and originally recorded by Lorence Hud. The song became a hit in Canada when released as a single in 1973. Hud's version appeared on his eponymous debut album. The song reached the top 5 on the West Coast, #3 on CJRW-FM in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, and peaked at #16 nationally on the RPM 100 chart. April Wine version April Wine had more success with a hard rock version of the song in 1981. It was the second single from their album '' The Nature of the Beast''. The song reached #40 on the Canadian Hot 100, and #57 in the United States on the Billboard Hot 100, and #19 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks. April Wine is a Canadian rock band formed in 1969 and based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
