Sis Bates
Nicole "Sis" Bates is a former American college softball player for the Washington Huskies softball, Washington Huskies and a member of the United States women's national softball team. She currently is a member of Athletes Unlimited Professional Softball, as well as an ambassador and mentor within the sport of softball. Early life Bates was born and raised in Ceres, California where she grew up playing baseball with her brother, Jimmy, which earned her the nickname of "Sis". Sis began playing wiffle ball when she was 5 years old, which sparked a passion for softball. Even in her youth, Sis enjoyed working on defensive skills. During her high school years, Bates traveled 12 hours every Sunday to practice with her club team, Firecrackers Rico, in Southern California. According to her coach Tony Rico, Sis is the face of the Firecrackers organization as she expresses beauty, humility, grace and empathy. Ceres, California
Ceres is a city in Stanislaus County, California. Its population was 49,302 at the 2020 U.S. Census, up from 45,417 at the 2010 U.S. Census. It is part of the Modesto metropolitan statistical area. Ceres is located in the San Joaquin Valley along State Route 99, south of Modesto and north of Turlock in Stanislaus County. Ceres is named after the Roman goddess of agriculture. The newspaper in Ceres is called the ''Ceres Courier'', which has been in publication since 1910. The offices of the ''Ceres Courier'' were relocated from an address in downtown Ceres in 2012. Athletes Unlimited Softball is a women's professional softball league in the United States, founded in 2020. League history Athletes Unlimited was founded by Jonathan Soros and Jon Patricof. There are no team owners, and league investors are capping their returns. Athletes share in the league profits, and are involved in the daily decision making. Players are not committed to one team but switch teams every week of the season through a draft. The top four players who earned the most points each week become captains for the next week and form new teams. Players earn points based on both their team and individual performances, and are ranked accordingly. The champion is the player with the most points at the end of the season.
