Sirup (film)
''Sirup'' is a 1990 Danish drama film written and directed by Helle Ryslinge. It was entered into the main competition at the 47th Venice International Film Festival. Plot Lasse Jager, a salesman at a Danish convenience store, decides to move to the fictional village of Raker, Minnesota, home to a large Danish diaspora. Lasse meets and marries an American woman, and returns with her to Denmark. However, unbeknownst to him, they are filming a sitcom called "Sirup" in the convenience store he works at, which parodies the store's workers - including him. Lasse must decide if he wants to star in the sitcom as an actor, or take it to the police, while also having to deal with a man who is a regular at the store, but later finds out that he is a rapist who escaped from prison. Helle Ryslinge
Helle Ryslinge (born 10 January 1944) is a Danish director, screenwriter, playwright and actress. Life and career Born in Copenhagen, Ryslinge started her career in the 1970s fringe theatre, writing and performing alongside Anne Marie Helger in the cabaret show ''Dameattraktioner''. After having worked as an actress in several films and TV-shows, she served as a screenwriter in ''Koks i kulissen'' (1983), an adaptation of ''Dameattraktioner'' directed by . She made her directorial debut three years later with the satirical comedy ''Flamberede hjerter'', which was a critical and commercial success. Her following film ''Sirup'' was entered into the main competition at the 47th edition of the Venice Film Festival, winning the Silver Lion for best screenplay, and got some commercial success, ranking as the third highest grossing Danish film of the year. Aage Haugland (1 February 1944 – 23 December 2000) was a Danish operatic bass. Life and career Haugland was born in Copenhagen and made his professional debut in Oslo in 1968. From 1970 to 1973 he was based in Bremen, and appeared at Den Jyske Opera in Aarhus in 1972. In 1973 he became a member of the Royal Danish Opera, where in 1985 he was made a Kammersanger. His engagements outside Denmark included roles at La Scala, Milan, The Metropolitan Opera, New York City, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Bayreuth and Salzburg Festivals, the Opéra National de Paris and the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. Peer Raben (born Wilhelm Rabenbauer, 3 July 1940 – 21 January 2007) was a German composer who worked with German filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Life Raben was born in Viechtafell, Bavaria, and attended Musische Gymnasium Straubing. He died of cancer in Mitterfels, Bavaria, Germany. Career In 1966, Raben, together with several others, founded the Action Theatre in Munich, which led to the Anti Theatre in 1968, where he was active as writer, composer and director. In 1969 and 1970 he produced Fassbinder’s first films. After working on a film of his own (''Die Ahnfrau''), he concentrated on composing for theatre and films.
