Sirius Academy North
Sirius Academy North (formerly Thomas Ferens Academy) is a mixed secondary school located in the North Hull Estate of Kingston upon Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The school was originally named after Thomas Ferens, the Liberal Member of Parliament for Hull East from 1906 to 1918. The school was established in 2012 as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme. The school largely replaced Sir Henry Cooper School which closed the same year. As an academy, the school was sponsored by the University of Hull, Hull City Council, Wilberforce College and Wyke College. In July 2015, after almost a year in special measures, it was announced that Thomas Ferens Academy was to become Sirius Academy North and be part of the Sirius Academy Multi Academy Trust (SAMAT), therefore being a "sister" school of the former Sirius Academy - now Sirius Academy West - which was rated outstanding by Ofsted The Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skil ... Academy (English School)
An academy school in England is a state-funded school which is directly funded by the Department for Education and independent of local authority control. Building Schools for the Future (BSF) was the name given to the British government's investment programme in secondary school buildings in England in the 2000s. The programme was ambitious in its costs, timescales and objectives, with politicians from all English political parties supportive of the principle but questioning the wisdom and cost effectiveness of the scheme. The delivery of the programme was overseen by Partnerships for Schools (PfS), a non-departmental public body formed through a joint venture between the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) (formerly the Department for Education and Skills), Partnerships UK and private sector partners. Sirius Academy West
Sirius Academy West (formerly Sirius Academy, Pickering High School, Kingston High School and The Boulevard) is a secondary school in Hull, England. It was renamed Sirius Academy in September 2009 under Building Schools for the Future, with Sports College specialist status. History The last headteacher of Pickering High School was Elaine Wadsworth, who was replaced by a principal, Cathy Taylor, when the school became an academy. In September 2011 the school moved into a new £48.5 million building which replaced an older one, bringing the school within one site, with a new sports hall to support sports college status. Wyke Sixth Form College is a sixth form college in Kingston upon Hull, England. History The college opened in 1988 and purports to be the largest A-level provider in the city. Over £3 million was spent on facilities before the college opened. Its campus comprises four buildings which include a library and learning resource centre, canteen, sports facilities and classrooms. The college offers a variety of Level 2 and Level 3 courses, including A-Levels and BTEC qualifications. Sir Henry Cooper School
Sir Henry Cooper School was a coeducational, secondary school located on Thorpepark Road in Orchard Park Estate, Kingston upon Hull, England. On the school ground is the North Site of the Hull City Learning Centre, no longer part of the City Learning Centres, in the school Information Technology building. History In 1854 Sir Henry Cooper was elected Mayor of Hull and, on the occasion of the visit of Queen Victoria in October of that year, he received a Knighthood. He became a member and first Chairman of the Hull School Board in 1871. When the Board Schools opened in 1876 at Bean Street, Hull, they were named the 'Sir Henry Cooper Schools' and, following their closure, the name was transferred to this school when it opened in September 1967. The North Hull Estate is a residential area in the north of Kingston upon Hull, west of the River Hull, built by Hull Corporation in the interwar period. The area includes a wide area of housing including ''The Quadrant'', the Endike Lane area, and the North Hull estate proper, north of Endike Lane.
