Sir Walter Miler
The Sir Walter Miler is an outdoor one mile race held annually at Meredith College in Raleigh North Carolina, typically the first Friday in August. The race is named after Sir Walter Raleigh. It is directed and promoted by Sir Walter Running, a Raleigh-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. A hallmark of the race is the close proximity of fans to the track, as spectators gather on the infield and in the outer lanes of the track to watch the races. History A predecessor event to the Sir Walter Miler was held in June 2013 at Cardinal Gibbons High School, referred to as the Sandman Mile. The first Sir Walter miler was held 1 August 2014 at the Meredith College Track in Raleigh, NC. The original event included a Women's Sub 4.5 Challenge and a Men's Sub 4 Challenge. Kyle Merber
Kyle Merber (born November 19, 1990) is a former American mid-distance runner who specialized in the mile and the 1500 metres. He was sponsored by Hoka One One and competed for the New Jersey New York Track Club before retiring from the sport in 2021. Running career High school In 6th grade, Merber began sprint training with Charlie Bell, a local high school coach from New Jersey. He would practice sprinting with a bungee cord tied to him for strength development. Merber attended Half Hollow Hills West High School, where he competed in cross country and track. During high school he was successful in a wide range of events, posting personal bests of 1:53 in the 800 meters and 9:06 in the 3200 meters. Josette Andrews (née Norris; born December 15, 1995) is an American middle to long-distance runner. Raised in Tenafly, New Jersey, Norris graduated from Tenafly High School in 2014, where she won the Meet of Champions in the 1,600 meters event during her junior season. George "Geordie" Beamish (born 24 October 1996) is a New Zealand long-distance runner. He won the 3000m at the 2022 Millrose Games in a time of 7:39.50, also setting a national record. Cory Ann McGee (born May 29, 1992) is an American professional middle distance runner and Olympian from Pass Christian, Mississippi. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games she finished 12th in the 1500-meters. She was the 2011 Pan American U20 Champion and 2011 USA Juniors Outdoor Champion in the 1500-meters. Chris O'Hare
Chris O'Hare (born 23 November 1990) is a Scottish middle-distance runner who competes in the 1500 metres. He has represented Scotland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Great Britain at the 2016 Olympic Games. Personal life O'Hare was born and brought up in West Linton and attended Peebles High School. Lopez Lomong
Lopez Lomong (born January 5, 1985) is a South Sudanese-born American track and field athlete. Lomong, one of the Lost Boys of Sudan, came to the United States at the age of 16 and became a U.S. citizen in 2007.
