Sir Thomas Butler, 3rd Baronet
Sir Thomas Butler, 3rd Baronet of Cloughgrenan (a townland near Carlow), (died c. February 1704) was an Irish baronet and politician. He was the son of Sir Edmund Butler, 2nd Baronet and Juliana Hyde, daughter of Bernard Hyde. By 1650, he succeeded his father as baronet. In 1670 and again in 1691, Butler was High Sheriff of Carlow. From 1692 until his death, he sat for County Carlow in the Irish House of Commons. Marriage and issue Butler married firstly Jane Boyle, daughter of the Right Reverend Richard Boyle, Bishop of Leighlin and Ferns, and secondly Jane Pottinger, daughter of Captain Edward Pottinger and widow of John Reynolds, in July 1700. By his first wife, he had two sons. Pierce, the oldest of them, was a Member of Parliament for the same constituency his father had represented and succeeded to the baronetcy. Henry Luttrell (Jacobite Commander)
Henry Luttrell (c. 1655 – 22 October 1717) was an Irish soldier known for his service in the Jacobite cause. A career soldier, Luttrell served James II in England until his overthrow in 1688. In Ireland he continued to fight for James, reaching the rank of General in the Irish Army. After it was revealed in 1691 that he was in secret contact with enemy commanders he was tried and imprisoned. Following the Treaty of Limerick he was pardoned by the Williamite rulers of Ireland. He was rewarded with the estate of Luttrellstown which had been confiscated from his elder brother Simon Luttrell. Although he sought a military command in the forces of William III of England this was denied him. In 1717 Luttrell was murdered in Dublin, in a case that was never solved. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century, however in its current usage was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown. A baronetcy is the only British hereditary honour that is not a peerage, with the exception of the Anglo-Irish Black Knights, White Knights, and Green Knights (of whom only the Green Knights are extant). Sir Thomas Burdett, 1st Baronet (14 September 1668 – 14 April 1727) was an Irish politician and baronet. Born at Garrahill in County Carlow, he was the son of Thomas Burdett and his wife Catherine Kennedy, daughter of Sir Robert Kennedy, 1st Baronet. Burdett was educated at Kilkenny College and Trinity College Dublin and served as High Sheriff of Carlow in 1701. Burdett entered the Irish House of Commons in 1704, sitting for County Carlow to 1713. Subsequently, he was Member of Parliament (MP) for the borough of Carlow until 1715 and then again for County Carlow until his death in 1727.
