Sir Robert Holt Leigh, 1st Baronet
Sir Robert Holt Leigh, 1st Baronet (1762–1843) was a British Member of Parliament. Early life He was born on 25 December 1762, the eldest son of Holt and Mary Leigh nee Owen. He had a younger brother, Roger, and a sister; Roger pre-deceased him, dying from injuries sustained in violence ahead of the election on 4 May 1831 Leigh was educated at Manchester Grammar School, and matriculated in 1781 at Christ Church, Oxford. He was much later granted a B.A. degree by Oxford, in 1837, and an M.A. in 1838. He is described by the National Archives as a classical scholar, widely travelled and a cultivated man, versed in Greek literature. He lived at Whitley Hall until 1811 when he moved to Hindley Hall after rebuilding it. He sought advice from his sister during the rebuilding process but neglected to plan for staircases in the three storied building. John Hodson (MP)
John Henry Hodson is an Anglican clergyman. Hodson was born in Britain c. 1915, he graduated with the M.A. degree from Oxford University and was ordained as a priest in 1938. He was the curate of Kennington from 1937 to 1940 and priest-in-charge at Friar Park (Wednesbury) from 1940 to 1943. Hodson served as a Royal Navy Chaplain from 1943 until 1946. After the Second World War he was the Vicar of Helmsley, Yorkshire. He emigrated to South Africa in 1953. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century, however in its current usage was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown. A baronetcy is the only British hereditary honour that is not a peerage, with the exception of the Anglo-Irish Black Knights, White Knights, and Green Knights (of whom only the Green Knights are extant). James Lindsay, 24th Earl Of Crawford
James Lindsay, 24th Earl of Crawford and 7th Earl of Balcarres (24 April 1783 – 15 December 1869) was an Earl in the Peerage of Scotland. Biography James Lindsay was born on 24 April 1783 at Balcarres House in Fife, the son of Alexander Lindsay, 23rd Earl of Crawford, Alexander Lindsay, 6th Earl of Balcarres and inherited the title of 7th Earl of Balcarres on his father's death in 1825. In 1826 he was created Baron of Wigan in the Peerage of Great Britain. In 1843 he claimed the abeyant title of Earl of Crawford and in 1848 the House of Lords allowed the claim and conferred on him the title of 24th Earl of Crawford, and by extension, the title of 23rd Earl of Crawford on his dead father.
