The High Sheriff of Tyrone is the Sovereign's judicial representative in County Tyrone. Initially an office for lifetime, assigned by the Sovereign, the High Sheriff became annually appointed from the Provisions of Oxford in 1258. Besides his judicial importance, he has ceremonial and administrative functions and executes High Court Writs. Sir Joseph Hoare, 1st Baronet (25 December 1707 – 24 December 1801) was an Anglo-Irish politician. Hoare was the son of Edward Hoare, the Member of Parliament for Cork, and Grace Burton. His family had settled in Ireland during the early part of the seventeenth century and became prosperous merchants and bankers, who founded Hoare's Bank. Hoare was educated in law and practised as a barrister in Ireland. He was elected to the Irish House of Commons as the MP for Askeaton in 1761. He held the office for an unusually long period of time, sitting until 1800, when the seat was disenfranchised following the Acts of Union 1800 when the Parliament of Ireland was dissolved. He was created a baronet, of Annabella in the Baronetage of Ireland on 10 December 1784. He passionately opposed the union between the Kingdom of Ireland and the Kingdom of Great Britain and spoke at length against it in the House of Commons, despite being ninety years old at the time. Sir Edmond Stanley SL (1760–1843) was an Anglo-Irish lawyer and politician who served as Serjeant-at-Law of the Parliament of Ireland, Recorder of Prince of Wales Island, now Penang, and subsequently Chief Justice of Madras. The elopement of his teenage daughter Mary Anne in 1815 caused a notable scandal. His career was hampered by his enormous debts, as a result of which he was forced to resign his Irish office. Sir Hugh Stewart, 2nd Baronet (14 May 1792 – 19 November 1854) was a Tory politician in Ireland. He was High Sheriff of Tyrone for 1827 and was member of parliament for Tyrone from 1830 to 1835. Enniskillen ( , from ga, Inis Ceithleann , 'Cethlenn, Ceithlenn's island') is the largest town in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. It is in the middle of the county, between the Upper and Lower sections of Lough Erne. It had a population of 13,823 at the United Kingdom census, 2011, 2011 Census. Enniskillen Castle was built in the 15th century as a stronghold of the Maguires, before coming under English control in the early 17th century. Castle Archdale in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland is a former estate on the shores of Lough Erne Lower, the key feature of which today is Castle Archdale Country Park. There is also a caravan park. The former estate is situated near Lisnarick and Irvinestown, in the broader hinterland of Enniskillen, and the park is owned and run by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency. History The park was once an estate owned by the Archdale family, who arrived in 1614 during the Plantation of Ulster. The castle was built in 1615 by John Archdale (died 1621), a Plantation undertaker from Norfolk. The castle was built on a T-plan with a defensive bawn 66 ft by 64 ft and 15 ft high with flankers at each corner. He was succeeded by his son, Edward. The castle was destroyed again in 1689, during the Williamite wars. County Tyrone is a former UK Parliament constituency in Ireland, returning two Members of Parliament (MPs). Boundaries This constituency comprised the whole of County Tyrone, except the parliamentary borough of Dungannon. It returned two MPs from 1801 to 1885. It was an original constituency represented in Parliament when the Union of Great Britain and Ireland was created on 1 January 1801. In the redistribution, which took effect in 1885, County Tyrone was divided into four single-member constituencies: East Tyrone, Mid Tyrone, North Tyrone and South Tyrone. Politics The constituency electorate was predominantly Tory/Conservative during most of this period.
