Sir John Harmood-Banner, 1st Baronet
Sir John Sutherland Harmood-Banner, 1st Baronet (8 September 1847 – 24 February 1927) was an English accountant from Liverpool. His interests spread across Lancashire and Cheshire, and extended to the British colonies and South America. He was also prominent in the civic affairs of Liverpool, where he was a long-serving City Councillor. A Conservative, he was Lord Mayor of Liverpool, and was one of the city's Members of Parliament (MPs) for nearly 20 years. Early life Harmood-Banner was born in Toxteth Park, Liverpool, the second son of accountant Harmood Walter Banner from Bebington in Cheshire. He was educated at Radley College. High Sheriff Of Cheshire
This is a list of Sheriffs (and after 1 April 1974, High Sheriffs) of Cheshire. The Sheriff is the oldest secular office under the Crown. Formerly the Sheriff was the principal law enforcement officer in the county but over the centuries most of the responsibilities associated with the post have been transferred elsewhere or are now defunct, so that its functions are now largely ceremonial. Under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972, on 1 April 1974 the office previously known as Sheriff was retitled High Sheriff. Herbert Charles Woodcock
Herbert Charles Woodcock (2 June 1871 – 18 January 1950) was a British businessman and Conservative Party politician. The son of Charles Woodcock of Smethwick and his wife, Annie (''née'' Robertson) of Bristol, he entered business and local politics in the latter city. He was an alderman on Bristol City Council for many years and a member of the Bristol Stock Exchange from 1898. He was a director of a number of public companies including the Metropolitan Cinema Investment Corporation Limited and the British Benzol and Coal Distillation Limited. Woodcock held a commission in the Volunteer Force and its successor the Territorial Force, and in 1911 became commanding officer of the 6th Battalion, The Gloucestershire Regiment. Edward Whitley (politician)
Edward Ewart Whitley (1825 – 14 January 1892) was an English solicitor and Conservative politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1880 to 1892. Biography Whitley was the son of John Whitley of Liverpool and his wife Isabella Greenall, and a nephew of the Conservative politician Gilbert Greenall. He was educated at Rugby School and admitted a solicitor in 1849. He became a senior partner in the legal firm of Whitley, Maddock, Hampson, & Castle, of Liverpool. He became a member of the Corporation of Liverpool in 1866, and was Mayor of Liverpool in 1868. He became a J. P. for Liverpool. In 1880 Whitley was elected as one of three Members of Parliament (MPs) for Liverpool and held the seat until the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885.
