Sir Hugh Hill, 1st Baronet
Sir Hugh Hill, 1st Baronet (1 January 1727 – 10 February 1795) was an Anglo-Irish politician. Hill was High Sheriff of Londonderry City from 1751 to 1753. He was the Member of Parliament for Londonderry City in the Irish House of Commons between 1768 and his death in 1795.E. M. Anglo-Irish people () denotes an ethnic, social and religious grouping who are mostly the descendants and successors of the English Protestant Ascendancy in Ireland. They mostly belong to the Anglican Church of Ireland, which was the established church of Ireland until 1871, or to a lesser extent one of the English dissenting churches, such as the Methodist church, though some were Roman Catholics. They often defined themselves as simply "British", and less frequently "Anglo-Irish", "Irish" or "English". Hill Baronets
There have been five baronetcies created for persons with the surname Hill, one in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia, one in the Baronetage of Great Britain, one in the Baronetage of Ireland and two in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. Three of the creations are extant as of 2008. The Hill Baronetcy, of Waughton in the County of Haddington, was created in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia on 4 February 1707 for Scipio Hill. The title became either extinct or dormant on his death in 1729. Baronets In The Baronetage Of Ireland
A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century, however in its current usage was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown. A baronetcy is the only British hereditary honour that is not a peerage, with the exception of the Anglo-Irish Black Knights, White Knights, and Green Knights (of whom only the Green Knights are extant).
